My sister uses a Neutrogena Healing Moisturizer that has a red cross on it, and more importantly, contains benzocaine, which numbs up her skin a bit as it moisturizes. She is much itchier than I am, and will often scratch herself until she bleeds if she doesn't take care.

I'm pretty itchy in the winter months myself, but I find it's sufficient to use a cortisone cream for excessively itchy spots, in addition to a regular moisturizer. Whatever your regular moisturizer is, it shouldn't have too many additives like frangrance. A good basic moisturizer (I use Jergens) or itch-relieving one (like Eucerin Calming Cream) is best for winter dryness. I have used the 12 (or is it 24?) hour Cortaid cream, and that works well but is expensive. I usually get the extra-moisturizing (with Aloe) cortisone cream. I find it's most economical to get the largest tube of the cheapest brand there.

Don't scratch! You'll only make your skin more sensitive. Get some cream, and use that scratching energy to rub it in really well (especially the cortisone cream, which has to penetrate to work).

If you do take baths, you might try using a moisturizing oatmeal bath. Aveeno makes them, but I prefer to get a drugstore brand, then use two packets. It's soothing and it's good for your skin. But don't forget to moisturize as well.

1. Stop taking long, hot showers/baths. Take short, warm ones.
2. Use some type of moisturizer. Vaseline would even be better.
