You would want a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) most likely for modeling. They are dropping dramatically in price, now you can probably get a 6-8 MP camera with a decent lens for between $600-800 and memory cards are quite cheap now (under $40).

A high quality digital camera from Canon is up to $800 for a 8 Mega pixel SLR. You will probably be fine with one that is $400 but if you want to use film, thats around $300-$400

Any old camera should do. While I normally use a Canon EOS 1D MKII and thousands of dollars worth of expensive pro lenses and lighting, here's a gallery of photos I took with a $200 digicam (that's three model shoots!)...

Wait...so, you are a model, and you've decided to just buy a camera....

Why the hell would you do that? Who is going to take your pictures?

You need a camera that is at least 6.1MP. Then you need good lighting, preferably direct sunlight. That should cost you around $300. Sunlight is free.
