I do not know if the SAS rumour is true but there highly trained individuals who helped train Delta Force and the Navy SEALS to where they are now. If there are any special forces individuals who are protecting harry while in theatre I'm sure they're honoured and stepped forward for the job so its not for us to criticise.
Harry's joined my regiment the Household Cav. and we are proud to have him with us. He is an Officer and a Royal so he is bound to have special circumstances, and if he wants to go out and get some action good for him, because anyone who joins the army does not join to sit in the mess all day and lads who go out there with him will find tough but if they come home they will be truly proud to protect. It is in our oath of allegiance ' to protect Queen, Country, Successors and Heirs and those who serve over us'.
So please bare that in mind before you start to criticise. This is a military issue not a civil one so civvies if you got an issue complain to your local MP. Ex- forces we've been trained and served we've seen what our senior officers are capable of when they've put their mind to it so we should be able to trust their judgement.

I just want to wish him and all of his men the best, to keep their heads down when they need to, kick butt when they have to and come home OK
I will say to the media let him do his job and he will be just another faceless pom in Iraq.
Lastly to the brass pray the training he has been given has been the best, because you will be crucified if any thing happens to him
KEEP THE MEDIA AWAY FROM HIM

for the love of god. I mean seriously. ok, here's the deal. Prince harry will never serve in the SAS, and if he does he'll get a desk job (shocking I know, but they do have them for the SAS, just as they do for every other military unit)
The SAS take part in the most dangerous missions and are designed to work behind enemy lines in low survival probability scenarios. Can you imagine what would happen if Prince harry's force got captured and beheaded one after another on TV? I'm aware that this is a worst case scenario, but even the sight of him coming home in a bag would be enough to have enemies of this country the world over jumping up and down with glee.
There is no way on god's green earth that the commanding officers of our military are going to put that boy into a theatre of operation without knowing that every patrol and every recon has a better than 90% probability of success.

your answer is largely based on personal motives, the country is more important than what people want to do, and you don't need to be a soldier to know that. if harry were killed captured or seriously injured that would be bad for the hole country, there is no NEED for harry to be there so sending there is a stupid risk and very irresponsible as he should know better. he us the future kings and should not go to war in this day and age where his capture would have such a dramatic effect that more lives would be risked needlessly.
as for the sas, decision where they should be employed is not there job its there superiors and where they want to or not they shouldn't be assign to watch harry because it is a wast of a very valuable resource that could be better employed.
yes i'm not a soldier but that doesn't mean i can't grasp simple priciples like this, where have i stated something only a soldier would understand.

the reason is because he wouldnt serve. He would become a target for the opponants to kill. It wouild turn a normal battle or heated discussion or even just a debate between two sides, into a killing frenzy.
Soilders who already must survive living inthe war zone on the edge of their seats, how would it be with the prince in their group, when is is likely he would be being targeted by the opponents.
In short, it adds stregnth to the battles opposite side. More emphasis on killing and more emphasize on kidnapping in the hope they prince becomes a trophy peice of war for theit group.

It's causing lots of divided opinion.
His involvement in Iraq should not be a political weapon.
Personally, I think it's brilliant he's third in line for the throne.
It means he can go and serve his country.
If he becomes a target, there will obviously be security measures to bring him out.
I admire him for being a normal teenage boy, and yes he has priveleges, but his heart is in the right place.

He should serve, and Tony Blairs son Ewan should be made to serve as well. Maybe his Father would appreciate more the fears and upset that the Iraq and Afgahanistan wars do to service mens families.

I am worried that he and all the people around him will be targetted more, but other than that I think if he wants to go and he is physically able then sure.
And 'civvies'? Honestly, who uses that word?

i think it is good that he is going to serve with his men and feel that the people putting him and his regiment in danger is the press who are making such an issue of it and alerting everyone to when and where they are going to be
