For ten years, I didn't want to take pills for mental illness.

I didn't want to change my "real" feelings. So I can understand where you are coming from.

Of course, I dropped out of college twice and was living with my parents in isolation from anyone else.. but to me that situation was better than the potential benefits of taking pills.

I only started taking medication after I was hospitalized. Then I could admit that I had a problem that required medication.

For me, though, I'm still working on my medication management... meaning even after years... I haven't gotten the right mix of medication to ease the depression. So even trying medication can be a long road... but still for me it is an improvement over nothing.

If you think the life you lead is good enough... then why should you take pills?

Of course, if you don't like the life you lead now... you could always try medication. If you don't like it then you could stop taking it.

i dont know what you have that docs want you to take pills, but i know i dont want to take pills if i dont think i need them deffinately. like if my leg hurts (i was hit by a car 3 months ago, had 8 fractures in 2 bones which dont want to heal) i just dont take anything because i know now what REAL pain is and i know if i take pills they are gona take the pain away just for a little bit. i will have to take another pill in a few hours and then again. i dont want to poison my body just because i cant take a little pain.
