I watched a friend's cat and the place smelled fine. A week or two after the cat left, I vacuumed the apartment and the smell of kitty litter became came out. It was fine before but after the vacuum, I think it may have heated up some smaller kernels of litter that got tracked into the carpet, and that's what caused the pungent smell. I tried Febreeze, but it didn't do much., Any ideas?

Febreeze really doesn't work. You'll have to go to a petco website and look for something like that. under stains and odors. Make sure you check for colorfastness it might take the color out of your carpet and there is some without it. It would probably cost 11.00 dollars. But it is less then paying someone to spray it or getting a new carpet. Also for a hint make sure you read the comments so you can see if it works. That will save you money and time.

There is a scented or rather descenting candle you can buy called smoke away that will remove any odor when it burns, and the kitty odor wont stay around long, you just happened to kick up a little dust more than likely, i suggest revaccuming and dusting, as well as a de odorizing candle such as a smoke away candle.

In the event that doesnt work, then you may want to try getting your carpet cleaned.

Also make sure you change the filter/bag in your vacuum cleaner. Since you vacuumed, the smell of the litter will be in the vacuum as well

Try shampooing your carpet replace the carpet shampooer detergent with arm and hammer laundry detergent use hot water and dont use a whole lot of detergent. after shampooing go over carpet again with shampooer just using hot water. this should get rid of the cat urine smell. there are also many product carpet fresh pet oder is a good one both the powder and the spray help out alot. also vineger will help get rid of the smell of cat urine. you mix mostly vieger in some hot water about a half a cup to a cup depending on the stain then you saturate the pet stain let it soak in for a minute and wipe it up the viniger smell with go away when the vineger water solution drys. Good luck hope this information helped i know how pesky pet stains and oders can be.

You should avoid using steam cleaners to clean urine odors from carpet or upholstery. The heat will permanently set the odor and the stain by bonding the protein into any man-made fibers. You should also avoid using cleaning chemicals, especially those with strong odors, such as ammonia or vinegar. From your pet's perspective, and may actually encourage your pet's inclination to reinforce the urine scent mark in that area.

Try OxyClean mixed with water in a spray bottle. Spray it over the area that smells then vacuum. It also works good on any stains too! Good luck.

Either sprinkle the carpet with carpet freshener and revacuum, or empty a sachet of room deodorizer/ carpet freshener into a clean vacuum bag, and then vacuum.

I'm glad it's not urine stains you are trying to get rid of.

Good luck to you, and I hope this helps. :)
