OK, so I have always believed in God. Then I started going to church more. I learned that being saved is not only believing in Jesus, because the devil believes that, that it is a relationship with Jesus. So I start reading my bible everyday, first the new testament then the old, I'm almost done. I was praying everyday.
Then I realized, I have no desire to save others. I don't feel bad about my past sins, not that I'm heartless, I just don't feel bad. Also, I didn't go to Jesus because I know I'm a sinner, but because I'm scared to death of Hell! Even though I choose to believe in Jesus, I have virtually no faith, because I am so skeptical. I've prayed for more faith and more of a desire to save others, but if I'm not saved, how can will God hear my prayers? I am actually very uncomfortable talking to people about religion at all. A well known preacher said that if I didn't have the desire to save others then I wasn't saved, because if I was really saved, then I would be motivated to.

Thanks so much for any help, I am hoping that the devil is just throwing doubt in my mind, but it would be nice to hear something from another Christian. Thanks!

Actually Fireball2, even I know that the bible says if you are a real chrisitan you WILL have doubts because Satan will attack you. I'm very disappointed in most of these answers so far.

Julian, I'm a engaged grown woman, not a scared little girl, my parents didn't feed me anything literally, and the people I grew up with didn't even go to Church. God is real, and Jesus is his son, that is something I know.

Some people are not saved when they first here the gospel. It's like a seed being planted, then it is watered, it produces and then comes the harvest. The fact the you are scared to death of hell shows that you KNOW you are a sinner. Sounds like you are trying to talk yourself out of being saved. You say you have almost read through the whole Bible. Start believing what it says about you and not what your mind and feelings are telling you. Most importantly, neither you nor I nor any other christian can save anybody. Jesus is the Savior. All we christians can do is share the Gospel with others and the Holy Spirit does the rest. It's not talking about religion, but it's living your life for God. Stop trying to do it on your own and just let the Holy Spirit guide you.
I'm sure you are familiar with Romans 3:23, 1John 1:9, Romans 10:9-10, 13, Ephesians 2:8-10 and 1John 5:11-15. Read these verses again. God is speaking to you from these verses.

Here is the full Salvation plan of God. The Bible says St. John 3:5 We must be Born Again of the water AND of the Spirit. This is what Jesus Christ taught. St. Peter preached it on the Day of Pentecost. Acts 2:38 Repent and be baptized by immersion ( that's how the original baptism was done) in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission or all sins, and you will be given the gift of the Holy Ghost. You will know when you have it, Acts 2:4, 10:45-45, 19:6, St. Mark 16:16-17. These are God speaking. Do not believe what anyone tells you. Look up these scriptures and see for yourself, it isn't rocket science. Experience God for yourself. He will do a miracle in your life and there will never be a doubt!!

You've asked some great questions...it's not about 'doing' which is man trying to reach God and is also the definition of religion--but of relationship. That's the key word. And we must realize that we can save no one--that is the job of the Holy Spirit. All we can do it tell others. You are right, even demons believe, and shudder at the Name. The no regret over sins troubles me, because we are to have remorse over sinning against God...but then again, once we confess, He forgives us and remembers them no more. One does not need to be saved for Him to hear prayers...I know He hears all prayers. How those are answered is His business though. I hope what the well-known preacher might have been saying is that if you don't have a heart for the lost, that if there are times when your heart just aches for them--and we cannot always be so sensitive, at least I cannot...it is too draining--but then I think of works, and what I am hearing here is much on works, on doing. There are times when it is enough to rest in the faith that you do have, and trust Him to draw you near. Hope this helps...

Sounds like you're on the road. Yes the devil believes and he knows the way to pull you away from God is to put doubt in your mind.Keep going to church talk with your pastor, Sometimes it's hard to deal with the past if You don't feel bad about Maybe God has removed that from your life. I don't know of anybody who just flat out wants to go to hell. Hell is complete and total separation from God. As for your desire or lack of to save other, God will place it there when the time is right. Jesus takes our prayers before God and He pleads for us . We pray to God through Jesus(In Jesus Name.) Your faith grows over time God gives us what we can handle when He knows it's best . Ask others to pray for you. You know that Jesus is the only way I'll ask for special for you.

I somewhat disagree with your preacher. I am a Catholic and always have been. While I'm no expert, I do not think you are going to hell. However, you should feel a certain amount of remorse for your sins, because if you don't feel sorry, you can't really be forgiven. God will always hear your prayers - no matter what. He loves you because he created you. And just because you don't want to save others doesn't mean you are going straight to hell. My advice: continue praying and God will show you the right way.
I hope I have been of some help.

You are saved by grace. Once you've said the sinner's prayer, and accepted Jesus into your heart and asked Him to save you, you are saved. Isn't salvation wonderful? Too many churches make it sound so hard. Remember, we are not saved by our works, that is false. And once you are saved, you can't loose your salvation. It is a gift from God.
I think its wonderful that you read your Bible. Its true that even Satan believes in God and Jesus. Its hard to talk to others about religion. I'm new to witnessing myself. In time, if God wants you to be a soul winner, He will give you the confidence, wisdom and knowledge to lead others to Christ. I think its sad that pastor said that to you. Its hard being a Christian sometimes, and I only recently was able to start handing out tracts for my church. Two years ago, I felt religon was "private", now I want to spread the gospel and Jesus will everyone. Its still hard for me to witness to complete strangers, but it will come in time.
We all grow at different levels in our faith. How long have you been saved? I hope you have found a great Bible based church to attned, so that you can learn about God, Jesus and the Bible. God bless.

Well I'd say your on the right track, and people who aren't saved should be scared. The one thing it sounds like you have not done is to repent of your sin. The only way to truely repent is to first of all realize how badly your sin offends God. He loves us so very much. Enough that he sent Jesus to pay for our sin. Each and every time we sin it is a personal offense against God and he takes it as such. When we finally realize how badly we have treated our creator and how much he loves us, it should lead us to genuine repentance. If we see how HOLY God is and how righteous he is and how just he is and just how vile the human race is, we realize our need for a savior. Thats not to say that christians no longer sin, but a truely saved person is heartbroken when they realize they have offended almighty God and we repent. I hope this helps you a little at least to understand. God loves us all, he wants none of us to perish but unfortunately most humans will perish and go to hell, the bible says so. Going to church does not save a person, reading the bible doesnt save someone. Only repentance and faith in Jesus Christ does.

It's natural to be uncomfortable at first talking to others about Jesus....depending on how extroverted you are, it can be a little bit intimidating in the beginning. What worries me, is that you're NOT sorry about your sins. That is a big red flag that something doesn't sound right. While as a Christian once our sins are forgiven and we KNOW that they have been, we can rejoice in that, and NOT dwell on them anymore, I don't hear you stating anything about REPENTANCE in your story above. You can't get saved unless you REPENT of your sins. God WILL hear an honest heartfelt cry for mercy from a sinners heart....if it's genuine.
God Bless you

Im sure this was not targetted towards me, as I am muslim. However I just wanted to tell you some things. No one has the right to judge you, except God, no one can tell you whether you will go to heaven or hell, because God is Forgiving, and Merciful.=)
Just pray, that is all you can do, and one day you will come to realize that you do care, maybe not so much, but you do. You should talk to people about religion, it opens your eyes to even greater things. Your motivation is not going to hell? .. Isnt that what Jesus really wants? Isnt that what God wants? Its good that you are praying. Dont let negative thoughts get you down, thats just satan trying to hinder your way to heaven. =)
