Hi! If English is your mother tongue, you will need a tape or person to be exposed to the pronounciation -which is not difficult as such-but different from English. Japanese is actually not terribly difficult -except to write -but very different from the Indo-European languages like English. If you accept that this is the way the Japanese say things and not try to compare so much or be difficult about it, you are better off.
Because Japanese writing system uses syllable marks =kanas, with 2 parallel systems and chinese pictograms =Kanjis and our letters (Romajis) all in a happy mixture you will encounter difficulties first whenever you see anything written.
If you are serious about Japanese, I would highly recommend you learn the Kanas -they are only 46 times 2 -and it helps you so much with Japanese if you ever go to Japan -even if you "only" want to learn to speak. The 2000 Kanjis is a different story, although mr. James Heisig claimed he learned them in a month -which may be true, he has an ingenious system of learning them. Typing in his name on net will give you examples.
There are several ways to learn the Kanas on line. You could go to Japan times web page (japantimes.com) they have links -which provide links -or google in learning kanas on line and you get zillion web pages and links to go forward. You will be bogged down with the possibilities! By this method you learn also net pages that have ways to learn spoken Japanese, not only the kanas.
Just stick to it and keep at it, you will learn!

ps. the most usable -shortest possible vocabulary for travel is in a book: Teach yourself instant japanese -this book has nothing of kanas or kanjis and very little of language structure but very usable vocabulary

You can't learn Japanese online. Japanese is a very difficult language and not something you can just pick up on by glancing at a website every so often when you feel like it.
