Why do girls write the name of a guy they like down on paper?

My guess is that if you like a guy enough, anything that makes you think of him will make you happy. But why the name, its just a bunch of letters. Wouldn't a photograph make you happier?

ya pics and videos r way better. lol. thats y ppl do different things when they like a person.
