Yes, these Americans, and the Canadians from the 'Mac-Pap' Brigades, were heroes since they identified and fought against fascism in Spain before their own nations did.

I think the truth should be told about them, and people can decide who their heroes are. Yes, they were fighting against fascism, but roughly about half of the Americans who fought in Spain were communist. Southerners in the Civil War felt they were fighting for freedom, when in reality they were fighting for slavery, even though the majority of them didn't even have one. Are they heroes? The Irish immigrant St. Patrick Brigade deserted the US army and joined the Mexicans during The Mexican-American war, because the Mexicans were Catholic. Are they heroes? Only you can decide if they embody the values you support.

Any Americans who serve there countries are heroes, unless I’m given a reason to believe otherwise.
