I have tiles that go all the way around and up from the counter top on a wall in the kitchen. I would like to just have about 4 rows of nice tile and have drywall to continue upwards. What do I do first and what do I need to watch out for?

Sequence for new applications is this: Counter tops installed followed by backsplash tile. So you need to remove the existing back splash tile before you install your new counter tops.

Remove the tile first. It is probably put on with adhesive, so be careful not to tear the drywall paper off with the tile, or you are going to have to replace it. It is a slow tedious job. If you are not the patient type, you might consider leaving four rows of the original tile. Then you can remove the upper tile along with the drywall and replace it with new. Or, or, go to home depot and look at their kitchen displays. The tile probably is just like yours.Replacing the counter tops may be all you need.

More info needed. Size of exisiting tile? Size of tiles you wish removed. Square footage of wall broken down to keep and lose.
