In November my husband went in for a wisdom tooth extraction. The estimate they gave us was 150.00 but because it was "a very deep extraction" they charged us 400.00. We just paid it and dealt with it. After about 10 times to them to see why the hole was not clearing up(no charge) they tell us it will close up soon. My husband had felt lousy and weak everyday since the day he got it extracted. We call the dentist Monday and ask them if they can see him again because he is feeling awful and has since the extraction. They say yes and tell us there is no charge. After we get done they try to charge us 135.00. We say they told us it was free and they say "well you cant always beileve the receptionist and we will just get it taken care of and bill you. We get a bill today for 65.00 saying that we owe it because what they did to him had nothing to do with the extraction. I am really mad that they have ripped us off and to make it worse-we jsut paid 200.00 today in blood tests to see if

my husband has a bacterial infection that may have ended up in his heart and this is what is making him feel lousy. We do not have the blood results until a few days so it may just be mono. We do not have insurance and we have a baby on the way that we are paying cash for. Should we pay the 65.00 even though that would pay for a whole prental visit or tell them what we think and refuse to pay?

The bacteria infection would be from the wisdom tooth extraction.

In most cases, when a treatment like this has started, then, every visit your husband has made after that to the dentist, should be included. First, they were way off on the initial visit price. That price should have been discussed with you prior to the tooth being removed, in the office. I would consider it very unprofessional for the dentist to increase the quoted price after the procedure was done. Was he placed on antibiotics when the dentist realized that the gum was not healing? How did they take care of it this time? If he has a systemic infection due to the tooth being pulled and the gum's not healing, I would talk to the business manager of that dental office, tell them what you have written above, and , ask for a partial refund. Then, I would find a new dentist to go to. And, no, I wouldn't pay that bill, I would contact the Better Business Bureau and the American Dental Association.

I'd tell them they better refund ALL your money or else you will get a malpractice lawyer and sue them for 100 times the amount for not giving him the proper care and antibiotics and getting a blood infection. Bunch of quacks! I'd get another dentist too. They are ripoffs.

its really all about priorities, do what you think is right. but if i were in your shoes i would argue with the dentist people about the 65 dollars. make them explain why they are billing you for that and why were you not told this before you were seen by the doc.
