To name a few, more obscure things
Tiffany & Co. (gorgeous building with even more gorgeous things inside. It's just fun to see it).
Central Park (walk around, it's gorgeous!)
Macy's (gigantic and quite famous - it's basically the Harrod's of America)
Washington Park (near Greenwich Village) - there's a gorgeous arch there, not to mention the restaurants around it happen to be a great sighting spot for NYU students.
The Disney Store, if you're into that. It's kind of fun. You can make your own Mr/Mrs Potato Head and pick your own parts that you want to put in it.
The NBC morning show (go early early!!!!) Fridays they sometimes have guest performers (singers) and there'll be a short concert (free) and you'll also have a shot at being on tv! Later check out the studio building - they have a candy shop on the higher floor? It has soo many different colors of m&ms. I don't know exactly why that made an impression on me.

Guidebooks and tourist websites will tell you all the basics. Here are some places you might want to check out that are probably not in those types of guides:
Le Souk - Hookah Bar/Northern African Restaurant/Disco - Avenue B between 3rd and 4th st.
Zabar's - Fantastic Deli/Grocery - 80th st. and Broadway - www.zabars.com
Joe's Shanghai - Dim Sum, Soup Dumplings - Chinatown - Pell st. between Mott and Bowery
Lit - Great Dive Bar, check out the basement too - 2nd avenue between 5th and 6th st.
Rodeo Bar - Restaurant/Live Music, try the
pomegranite margarita and some Texas BBQ - 3rd avenue and 27th st. - www.rodeobar.com

Go to the Frick Museum! I love this place. It is a mansion that has been turned into a museum. They have an original Gainesboro (probably not spelled correctly) and fabulous miniature collection. It is not so big that you have to spend days there. It is my favorite place in NYC.
