Firstly Pat, Andrew did see action in the south atlantic, he was doin a very dangerous job as his helicopter was bait for heat seeking missiles to keep the missiles away from warships, sorry to correct you. Unfortunately civilians run the armed forces from their ivory towers in whitehall and on their accountants laptops while they sit at home watching it aint half hot mum thinking they are clued up. I dont think Harry should be sent to Iraq as he will be a prize target for every faction of anti Brit and American insurgent. Its not fair on the boy or those around him. As for civilians they dont got a clue. As a famous Native American Indian Chief once said "You lot dont know jack s##t!!" Regards.

B.S. Its a bit more than concern over how tax payers money is being spent.
Now I don't have any criticism over how you guys are doing the job you have been given in Iraq. My criticism is for the government in sending the British Army there in the first place.
Harry, as a serving officer, has a duty to go wherever he is told and I'm sure he'll do a fine job. The point is that his involvement in the Iraq theatre will act as an aid to recruitment for the army (that and the average of a nine percent pay rise). Normally this is no bad thing but Iraq is a wasteful and terrible situation. I don't want to see any British soldier being deployed there, and the people on the ground should be withdrawn as soon as possible.
So in that regard it is a matter for us civilians because there is a political dimension to Harry's deployment.

Prince Harry wants to be with his regiment, The Blues and Royals, even if that means going to a war zone or in this case to Iraq.
Well good for him. It's his decision and not anyone elses.
No one is forced to join the British Army. HRH Prince Harry has made up his own mind of his own free will.

I suppose you haven't heard, even though we here in the States have heard, that Prince Harry hasn't been a civilian in some time. Like his uncle, Prince Andrew, Harry is in the service and his regiment is being sent to Iraq. Next time, perhaps, you might find out the facts first.

I agree about Prince Harry's decision to go to Iraq.
He is a trained intelligent army officer who to the best of my knowledge has the trust of his Commanding Officers to do his job properly and if given the privacy from the media will successfully do his tour.
As in the cases of his Uncle, Prince Andrew people knew only that he was in the Falklands and is wasn't until after the war his heroics were released to the media.
The fact that it is in the public arena now will elicit debate, but it shouldn't be used to exert pressure on him or any body else*

Nice try, but Prince Harry is a fully vested officer in the British Military.

prince harry going to iraq is as much a political affair as it is a military one and well soldiers are generally **** polliticans. why do military people have a right to debate this issue on here and we not, why don't you go nag your superiors. why do you have to be a soldier to understand that harry going to iraq is an unneccasary risk.

Your question seems to be suggesting that, because I am a civilian, I have no knowledge of matters military, nor am I entitled to have and express any opinion I might have about those matters.
Don't be such a grossly wrong individual.
I am as entitled to an opinion as the most senior military man in the land, just as he is entitled to an opinion about my civilian role. We are both entitled to express our view.
That we might both be wrong about one another's activity is irrelevant.
What actually matters, and is one of the things we, as a country, are supposed to be concerned about in Iraq and elsewhere, is the freedom to express a view.

Its because civilians keep there nose out of military affairs that we are in Iraq, we should stick our nose in and tell the military to get to hell out of Iraq.
Don't forget the majority of the UK didn't want the military to go to Iraq but were overruled by a minority. democracy must be a joke!!
