Not only do we have a 'Charles Darwin Day' but we also have an 'Evolution Day'

Now, I'm all for evolution, but isn't this a bit hypocritical of humanists?

Uh, I wasn't aware Darwin died for any one's sins....

As the old joke goes "Bob was an atheist, but he gave it up. He said there were no holidays".

What's important is that Darwin's *writings* haven't become some kind of sacred text. If new evidence (such as, ooh, Mendel's discovery of genetics*) disagrees with Darwin, too bad for Darwin. This has always been the case and will always continue to be the case.

Contrast this with religion, where if Saint Whatshisface said that eating lentils on a wet Tuesday is wrong, it has been and always will be the case that eating lentils on a wet Tuesday is wrong. See the difference?

Where are these holidays celebrated? Not in the U.S.A, that's for sure. And who would be behind such a celebration? Certainly not scientists! To biologists, an "Evolution Day" would make just about as much sense as a "Photosynthesis Day" or a "Mitosis Day". Evolution isn't something scientists celebrate. It's just a natural process they study.

How about an Evolution Day Parade? People could dress like monkeys, and walk down the street bent over, while other people throw Bibles at them. The last one who doesn't get knocked down gets to walk upright.

You're kidding right? A darwin day and evolution day?

*shakes his head* If this is true, it's pretty freaking sad... and I to accept the veracity of the evidence for evolution.

I majored in Biology and had never heard of either (darwin day, evolution day) until this post, that should tell you something.

I've never heard of Darwin Day or Evolution Day.

What I have heard of is Xmas and Easter. Talk about undeserved messianization! (is that a word?)

I don't mind it... all the "Days" change over time. We no longer celebrate Washington's or Lincoln's Birthday. What's the difference as long as we still get regular days in between.
