Here is the thing - a friend of mine keeps telling (almost everyone) how happy she is with her boy-friend. They are together for 3 years now. I am a good friend and I am sincerely happy for her, in fact, it cheers me up to hear it. Then something came up in our conversation - apparently she told me she is jealous, she always asks him who called, what they said, etc. She would ask him to clean the house (sounds to me more like demand) and then she would call him from her college to check if he has already cleaned it or not. There is no negotiation with her, - when she asks, she expects it to be done. She has quite a temper and snaps easily. She tried to convince me, that her behaviour is normal. Perhaps, she is happy in this relationship, but I doubt that anyone would enjoy constant jealosy, control and bad temper. Would you believe that this is a happy relationship?

No, that wouldn`t work out, and the boyfriend is going to crack one day.

Depends if the guy is a complete pushover?

Unfortunately in this world, there are people who will leave a relationship when they are unhappy and people who feel more secure in a bad relationship and are too scared to leave it.

I'm the type who will stand up for myself and be happy single than with a man who treats me unfairly and does things i don't like in a guy.

maybe your friends boyfriend is insecure and feels he wont get anything better. Or maybe hes just as bad and your only hearing what your friend is like. To me it isn't a perfectly happy relationship with control and jealousy like you explain but maybe they are both happy or maybe the man isn't brave enough to say he isn't happy and is a pushover so your friend thinks they are happy when really she is making him miserable. I feel for the boy if thats the case as well as from what you describe. Hopefully one day he sees sense and if they arent meant to be then leave on peaceful terms. but it isn't a happy relationship but the sounds of it...

i believe they are happy at times but im sure they have there arguements about the way she can be. Maybe the likes for the woman to take control of the relationship, obviously she doing something right if they have been together for 3 years.

It is true that there are people out there who have an unconscious desire to be dominated and controlled sound like this guy is one of them and your friend sounds like a control freak it "sounds" like a match made in heaven but in reality it is a very unhealthy relationship and sooner or later things will come apart.

Who knows? Some people just like to be abused. Her bf sounds like that sort of fellow.

Another noteworthy point to make is that she may do some really interesting and pleasurable things to him and that makes it very easy for him to do as he's told. My wife could get away with bossing me around a lot more than she does. :)

you need to sort your friend out, the guy will probably leave her, unless he really really really really really loves her.
