MMMMMM I remember orange crush back in the days of glass bottles. And do you remember HIRES rootbeer? Yes the glass of yesteryear was certainly better. I rarely drink any pop but when I do it is different in a can. Sometimes you can still find it in bottles at coffee shops etc. and then I will have one, but something is still different. Maybe the ingredients have changed too??? Did they use high fructose corn syrup 40 years ago? Anyway, just another thing to lament about days of old.
Oh, and do you remember the bottles were only 7 ounces? My grandmother always had 7 ounce bottles of 7up and my dads barber shop had the old pop machines with 7 ounce glass bottles.

You can get pop in glass bottles but it is expensive. The real thing you should miss is the sugar used way back when. Now they all use corn syrup as a sweetner and you can taste the tinge of the corn. Taste some clear Kayro corn syrup and compare it to how the pop tastes these days. Pop is in an aluminum not tin can. Pop was a pain in the old days to take back the empties and glass bottles were busted all over the streets. I remember how Detroit used to glisten in broken glass. When they changed to deposit cans the broken glass disappeared. If you ever worked in those days in a store the glass bottles and wood cases were heavy and sometimes really nasty. Cigarette butts, pee, bubble gum, spit, dirt, bugs, you name it were often in the bottles returned. The real thing I miss is the real cane sugar and clean taste from being in a bottle. If you can get over the nasty corn syrup taste go for the Coke in bottles once in a while.

Part of it is the can But the other part is that they are using corn syrup in place of cane sugar and it makes a huge difference. If you can get Coke from Mexico for some weird reason they still use cane sugar .
As far as the remark of not having bottles in vending machines , those of us of a certain age know that is not true. Coke in glass bottles was very common in vending machines.
What I really miss is real NYC candy stores w/ real soda fountains. Put in the ice , pump in some coke syrup, a little cherry syrup add some seltzer water stir and serve -Wow !

I well remember when a bottle of coke was 5 cents and it cost a dime to get in the movie show. A bag of popcorn was 10 cents so I could go see a double feature and a cartoon for a quarter. Gas usually hung around 16 cents a gallon and the milk man brought fresh milk every other day.
BTW, I couldn't afford the gas then either...

I agree fully, pop in aluminum cans gets hot too fast and is never the same as from glass, beer is even worse.

well they dont make them in glass anymore because its dangerous when they break!
And they cant go in soda machines because they would shatter!!
It would be cool if they were still in glass bottles!!
