I had crackling ears recently, it was an infection. Go see a doctor so you can get something prescribed for it!

It could be that you have a middle ear effusion or an ear infection. If you feel lightheaded then it could be an infection in your inner ear causing your equilibrium to be off. I have the crackling noise all the time. It's probably from your eustachian tube (small tube that goes from the middle ear to the back of your nose. Helps keep the pressure in the middle ear as normal as it can be all the time along with draining debris from your ears) trapping and releasing pressure. (Popping your ears over and over.) It happens to me a lot when I chew or yawn or swallow. It could be blocked causing an ear infection because its created a vacuum pulling fluid into the middle ear. Go see an ENT doc. Antibiotics can be used to clear up an ear infection.

The closest thing I can think of is pressure changes/your ear popping (like when you ascend or descend in an airplane). Maybe you have an ear/sinus/eustachian tube infection you should get checked out?

Residual effect of large cavity between ears when drying out.

SEE YOUR DOCTOR.

It sounds like your TMJ muscle in your jaw is out of joint and/or you are grinding your teeth at night. You definitely need to see your dentist!
