You can keep it from happening. It happens and people cannot protect themselves. You can take procautions like shredding your stuff, but your data is our there.The Fedral Trade commission does have a site in case you need are a victim, but it is a document over 200 pages that you have to fill out on your own. They are also now saying you will need a lawyer if it does happen. Over 21,000 people a day have their identity stolen and some do not even know. I have identity theft shield which monitors my credit report, alerts me when anything at all hits my credit. If I do become a victim, they are the only company who restores your credit for you within 30-60 days. That is really all people can do. Hopefully your bank will believe you or they have some kinda anti theft program. Or get a lawyer
