What are people of the Islamic faith taught about forgiveness of sins?

The ancients did sin offerings, and Christians believe that redemption came through Jesus' death. I don't know much about Islam, so what is the belief about divine forgiveness?

[24:22] Those among you who are blessed with resources and wealth shall be charitable towards their relatives, the poor, and those who have immigrated for the sake of GOD. They shall treat them with kindness and tolerance; do you not love to attain GOD's forgiveness? GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful

[42:37] Believers are those who avoid gross sins and vice, and when angered they forgive.

We cannot talk of forgiveness. Forgiveness is granted to all who are willing to seek it.YOu must repent sincerely to what you have done (this is usually done through charity, dawah (passing knowledge) and other means .. ) you must make sure to not carry out the actions that you are repenting from.

And the miraculous thing is that even if you do not ask for repentance, there is a chance that Allah (swt) will forgive you. WE do not know who he chooses to forgive, and who he does not, for he is Oft-Forgiving and Merciful.

Some people even say, that if you truly believe in Allah, and that he is most forgiving, and the most merciful, that he may on the day of judgement grant you passage to heaven, even if you have commited the greatest of sins.

That is why we cannot say what forgivness is, however it is always best to repent for your sins, because life as well as the afterlife are unknown to us.

We believe that everyone is accountable for what they do.
Adam and Eve were accountable for the sin they committed , so God sent them to earth . Here they worshipped God and seeked His forgiveness .

We don't believe that one persons suffering will redeem another person's sins. We also believe that Jesus did not die on the cross....a whole new story.
Also for sins you have committed, you should repent and ask for God's forgiveness.

So unlike the Christian faith, we believe in doing good and abstaining from evil because in the end we will be answerable for what we do and not a single soul will go unpunished for the sins he/she committed.

It is a sin to go and confess to another human being.
But I'm a Shiat Muslim and we say that if you truly regret what you have done you can ask God for forgiveness in your prayers or any other time. Toubah means asking for forgiveness and there is a Surah named Toubah in the Quran.
A Shiat Muslim also believes, if his/her sin is huge, that s/he could be forgiven if s/he asked for forgiveness from the Prophet or his daughter or the 12 Imams (his son-in-law and grand children). Because God loves these people and he wouldn't refuse their request.

We are responsible for our own sins and thus are at the Mercy of Allah Almighty. We cannot comprehend how merciful He is - He is 70,000 times more merciful than your own mother! As a mother now I can't comprehend it at all because my mercy is endless towards my children.
Also, Allah tells us to ask and He will forgive. Just as in Christianity, we must ask for forgiveness and then repent. Of course no one is perfect except Allah and so we simply try not to do the sin again. If we do then we simply return to Him and humble ourselves once again by asking for forgiveness.

in islam, forgiveness often requires the repentance of those being forgiven. Depending on the type of wrong committed, forgiveness can come either directly from Allah, or from one's fellow man.

this....

Death for apostasy (Leaving Islam):
Sura 4:89: They long that ye should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that ye may be upon a level (with them). So choose not friends from them till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turn back (to enmity) then take them and kill them wherever ye find them, and choose no friend nor helper from among them,”

Kill Disbelievers in a cruel fashion:
Sura 5:33: "Those who make war with Allah and his messenger will be killed or crucified, or have their hands and feet on alternate sides cut off, or will be expelled out of the land. That is how they will be treated in this world, and in the next they will have an awful doom."

Slit throats of unbelievers:
Sura 47:4: Therefore, when ye meet the Unbelievers (in fight), smite at their necks; At length, when ye have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly (on them): thereafter (is the time for) either generosity or ransom: Until the war lays down its burdens. Thus (are ye commanded): but if it had been Allah's Will, He could certainly have exacted retribution from them (Himself); but (He lets you fight) in order to test you, some with others. But those who are slain in the Way of Allah,- He will never let their deeds be lost.

Amputation for petty theft:
Sura 5:38: Cut off the hands of thieves, whether they are male or female, as punishment for what they have done—a deterrent from God: God is almighty and wise.

Killing unbelievers:
Sura 9:123. O ye who believe! fight the unbelievers who gird you about, and let them find firmness in you: and know that Allah is with those who fear Him.

Dont be friends with Jews or Christians:
Sura 5:51: O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians for your allies and protectors: They are but allies and protectors to each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is of them. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust.

Sex slaves are permitted:
Sura 4:24 Also (prohibited are) women already married, except those whom your right hands possess.

Kill disbelievers:
Sura 2:191. And slay them wherever ye catch them, and turn them out from where they have Turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter; but fight them not at the Sacred Mosque, unless they (first) fight you there; but if they fight you, slay them. Such is the reward of those who suppress faith.

Permission for a muslim man to beat his wife if she doesnt obey him:
Sura 4:34: Men are the maintainers of women because Allah has made some of them to excel others and because they spend out of their property; the good women are therefore obedient, guarding the unseen as Allah has guarded; and (as to) those on whose part you fear desertion, admonish them, and leave them alone in their sleeping places and **beat them**; then if they obey you, do not seek a way against them; surely Allah is High, Great.

Fight disbelievers until you subjugate them:
Sura 9:29: Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.
