yes it can be genetic. I read somewhere that siblings of allergic kids are at a 40% increased risk of developing the allergy. There are a lot of good sites on allergy awareness. Try the FAAN site.

allergies or the tendency to get them is partly genetic. However an allergy can manifest in someone with no family history of allergy. Allergies are variable - ranging from stomcah or rash to full-blown anaphylaxis; which is essentially sudden death after a few minutes of swelling, sweating, low blood pressure and difficulty breathing. What is the degree of your allergy (Mild to severe), and yes it can be hereditary

many allergies have a hereditary factor, for example asthma, dermatitis and hayfever are all related, and many people in the same family will suffer with one or all of these conditions, i imagine (and i only guessing), that if there is a genetic weakness to certian substances than this could create a shared food allergy in families

A tendency toward an allergy can be. Exposure to an allegen can cause an allergic reaction. You and your siblings would have common exposures being from the same household.

The tendency to have allergies IS genetic, but not necessarily to be allergic to the same things. If you suspect you are allergic to the same thing your borther is, though, it sounds like you probably are.

Yes, it is possible to inherit tendancies toward allergies. Your dad needs to get his head out of the sand.
