Why not make everybody undergo a full cavity search occasionally, in case you might find something illegal? Or occasionally break into people's homes to check for illegal things? I mean, if you are going to test everyone for no real reason, where are you going to stop? I think it's ok to test for drugs for jobs where it really impacts safety, like forklift operator, truck driver, surgeon, but most jobs, i think it's a terrible invasion of privacy. If someone is really impaired, their coworkers should be able to tell. I don't use illegal drugs, but when I was asked to take a drug test at a hospital, I refused because they had no reason to test. I find the whole thing very offensive.

The problem with that is the word "make". It is a violation of human rights and therefore illegal. Also, the amount of money it would cost to test everyone would break their bank.

Some places do.
But some of us are known not to abuse or use drugs. Why waste money testing us?
