Yes. Males tend to be color blind much more than females but females are the genetic carriers for color blindness. My father's father is color blind. My brother and I are not and my cousins (daughters of my father's sister) are not color blind. My cousins' sons run a higher risk of being color blind though. This is how it was explained to me when I asked my doctor about it when I was pregnant.

Yes - for most cases of color blindness. But you can also get colorblind through drugs, alcohol, aging or a hard hit on your head. Check out the following link: http://www.colblindor.com/2006/06/08/tritanopic-after-head-injury/
By far the most common forms are genetically inherited and encoded on the X chromosome. Because men only have one of them they are more often colorblind than women, which doesn't mean that women can't be colorblind.

Absolutely. There are three dyes used for color vision; the blue-sensitive dye is coded on one of the autosomes, so if either parent has a good copy, the dye is produced. But the red and yellow sensitive dyes reside on the X chromosome (in adjacent positions), so any male who inherits a faulty one from his mother will be colorblind, and any female who inherits a faulty one from either parent will be a carrier, with a chance of producing colorblind sons. Rarely, a female will inherit a faulty X from both parents, and be colorblind; all her sons will be colorblind also.

Color blindness is not really a disorder, it is a trait. Males typically inherit it. To be color blind, both of your parents need to contribute one chromosome of "color-blindness". If your parents both submit it, then you are colorblind. You need both chromosomes to be colorblind, if you get one, then you are a carrier. Unluckily, if your Dad was color-blind, your chances are significantly increased if your Mother was a carrier, 3/4 to be exact.
