start with its name, make sure your in a quiet room. just keep repeating its name over and over, until it says it (it might take a long time so you might want to do it every few days). after that try teaching it your name, then move on to a different word.

First do not put another bird in the cage with it or a mirror. By doing so your parakeet will talk "birdie" to itself and the other bird. Continually saying the same thing to your bird daily and when you see it is a starter. Another trick is to put a recording of your voice to repeat the desired sentences you want it to say, in the rom while you are gone. There should be no other influences on though, no radio or tv. This will stumulate the bird to say the things you want it to. This will take time and effort on your part. Birds don't learn to talk in one day. You should start seeing some type of response from your birdie within four weeks. Hope some of these tips help, good luck.

What you want to do, is in the morning when you get up, keep your birds cage covered. Say the same word over and over VERY VERY slowly for about 30 minutes. They say to do it in the morning when the birds mind is fresh. The say to keep your birds cage covered, so it doesnt get distracted by the things outside of the cage. Also, it helps if you dont have mirrors or other birds in there, so it doesnt get distracted from those. The younger the parakeet, the better, but remember, not all budgies will talk. Males are more likely to talk, but not all of them do. Words with K and T are much easier for a bird than others...Like Pretty would be easier to say than Hello...so try that...The slower you talk, the more distinguished the bird will hear it, and when he says it back, it will sound more normal, like human talk. This will take a lot of time and paitence, but its cool when they talk back. ONce they pick up one word, it will be easier for them to pick up more. HOpe this helps! I did it with my budgie, and it works!

Birds are funny creatures, they mimic all sorts of sounds. Try covering the cage with a sheet or something similar and like what most people say be repetative. They learn a lot more when they feel safe and they are not being distracted, and my birds learn alot when they are nearly asleep. I hope this helps.

Parakeets will learn to whistle a tune but they do not repeat words. you need to get a parrot.

Repeat the same phrase, over and over. You can also buy tapes or cd's that do the same thing.
