Fine, if you want to say God was created by a previous God who was created by a previous God, etc etc, then so be it. But to say God has always existed but it's impossible for the Universe to do the same thing, is beyond me.

God has always existed. Simple as that. He wasn't created by a previous God, etc, but He was, is and forever will be. He made the Universe when it was time to do so, which was more than 10,000 years ago.

There aren't too many possibilities concerning the universe.

It could have been created ex nihilo -- this is the creationist viewpoint.

It could have always existed. I think this possibility troubles only philosophers (why should something exist instead of nothing?) and those who hold to some form of the big bang theory.

That pretty much exhausts the possibilities, although you'll come across people who have another view that when analyzed is nothing more than "the universe created itself" which is literally nonsense as it violates the law of noncontradiction.

To be fair, there are other possibilities one could think of, but they aren't worth discussing (e.g. "the universe is just an illusion").

I haven't come across anyone who says it is impossible for the universe to have always existed, only those who say the evidence suggests it hasn't. Can you cite any sources?

To be honest, I get the impression you are just trying to slam creationists while armed with a lame argument and that your question isn't an honest question.

Well, even modern science speculates about the beginning of the Universe. If it is presumed that time began with the Universe, then God, who created it (since it could not be self-created, like nothing can) exists outside of time. So, to say that God always existed is foolish, being that 'always' is a term based on the existence of time itself. This is how God became the ultimate explanation for the root of things, an explanation that no science will ever be able to give. What's so wrong with that?

Your question makes no sense.

For one to be a creationist they must believe that God is the creator of all including the universe therefore the universe must be younger than God.

God has always existed and is outside of space and time (the universe) because He created them.

As a Christian, I can not say that God has always existed with any certainty. All I can do is to accept what he says in the Bible. He is : I AM. And he is the alpha and omega which means beginning and end.

But, is it any harder to believe that God has always existed than it is to believe the scientific explanation that the universe just suddenly appeared out of nowhere? I trust God, thank you. Science has been proven wrong to many times to suit me.

God created the Second Law of Thermodynamics, so he is not subject to it. The physical universe seems to be subject to it, so we must conclude that it had some beginning and will have an end.

If God can last forever, than the universe can too. For all we know the universe is a marble and we are all very tiny organisms.

The Bible suggests that God is a four-dimensional being. And if this is so then there is no way in this lifetime that we could even begin to comprehend what God is like, where He came from, and why He made us. It's just not possible, the only things that we do know about Him, come from the Bible.

And the rest is up for debate.
