You cannot "clean" with cocoa butter!!! Make sure you use the right kind some have alcohol in and it with sting like a *****. Never use any petroluem products while healing like neosporin or bacitracin.
Totally correct with the antibacterial soap, once a day in the shower is completely sufficient. Use the cocoa butter sparingly, put a thin layer on (if its still shiny dab any excess off with a paper towel). Just use it when it feels like your skin is tightening. If you break out (annoying but does happen) Stop using the cocoa butter and just leave it alone for a few days. Less is always more when healing a tattoo.
Gd luck with the aftercare.
For all the smart A&D users, check the ingredients. Certain types contain a Zinc Oxide which oxidises your colours and makes them fade and dull while healing more than usual. Hence why you cannot go wrong with just simple cocoa butter.

The Tattoo will ooze (lymph) this is a sign that healing is taking place. The best way to take care of your Tattoo is to cover the Tattoo with Glad Wrap directly after the Tattoo is finished for the first two days. If left alone with no cream and no Glad Wrap the Tattoo will dry up leaving a scab that will take a long time to fall off and will cause discomfort. The scab is caused by the lymph drying out. The lymph has great healing properties while it is still moist. So we wash the Tattoo down with warm water using a clean soft rag. Then Bepanthen Cream is to be lightly spread over the Tattoo and the Tattoo covered with a new piece of Glad Wrap which is taped down on all four sides with soft bandage tape so no air reaches to the Tattoo. This bandage should be taken off 4 to 5 times a day and the Tattoo washed and creamed and covered again in the same manner. This procedure is very important so no infection can take place. Especially before retiring to bed the Tattoo should be washed down, creamed and covered with Glad Wrap again and taped down so the bandage won't be moved while sleeping so no lint from the bed spread etc. comes on the Tattoo and the Tattoo won't dry out. After the two days you don't need the Glad Wrap anymore, but cream the Tattoo every day with Bepanthen Cream a few times a day for the next 2 to 3 weeks till healed so the Tattoo won't dry up. If you have not creamed your Tattoo a scab will form. Don't pick any scab. In these two weeks also do not soak your Tattoo in water for long periods i.e. bathing. Stay out of the sun until the Tattoo is completely healed i.e. 2 to 3 weeks because the new Tattoo will burn very fast. After your Tattoo is healed you should always put a sunscreen on your Tattoo when going in the sun because the sun fades the colours away. If you follow these Instructions you should not have any problems with your Tattoo.
Here is a website explaining what Bepathen Cream is:

Don't listen to that suggestion, if you want the right advice, first of all ask the person who did the tattoo for aftercare instructions. They should have told you all of this at the time! I have never heard of using cocoa butter, by the way, but my experience is that it isn't the greatest moisturizer out there, and so - call your tattoo artist to be on the safe side. If you use products that end up making your ink bleed or your tat gets infected, YOU will be to blame, not the artist... although I'm not sure why THEY didn't give you aftercare instructions? My guess is they did, and it didn't include cocoa butter.

wash it with anti-bacterical soap, let it air dry for a min, then use A&D ointment and then pat it off to get the access goo off. You want it moisterized but you don't want it shiny because the access moisture will pull the ink out. After you do this process for about a week then just switch to non scented lotion. Make sure the lotion doesn't have any alchohol in it because that will just dry out your tattoo. Always make sure that when you get out of the shower you re-moisturize it because if you don't then your tattoo will scab up and it will damage your tattoo. I use cocoa butter after about a week of healing and it works fine for me. once you switch to lotion you don't have to really clean it anymore. Just putting lotion on it to keep it from getting dry is the best thing.

dont clean it with cocoa butter....clean it with the antibacterial soap...then a couple times a day...or whenever you have a chance put cocoa butter lotion on it. Clean it every morning and night and use the lotion all day!

No i wouldn't put cocoa butter on it, i would just use AD ointment to keep it moisturize after you use an anti bacterial soap to clean it.

You should be cleaning it with antibacterial soap no matter what kind of ointment you use. I recommend using the brown label A&D ointment, it can be found with the baby care products. I am covered in pieces and have found that to be the best.

You need to use antibacterial soap for sure but using Lubriderm is the best as far as moisture goes, it has no fragrance (that can cause irritation). Make sure to keep your tat covered with sunblock too after it has healed. I have 7 tatts myself and I have found these things to work best.

I say clean it with the soap then put some Vitamin A&D ointment on it. The ointment will help the skin heal better! your skin does need both of those vitamins!
