That depends on how much school he'd miss, and how his grades are. If he's already in jeopardy where attendance is concerned...can't they wait until spring or summer break? If it's only for a week and he can get his school work so he won't fall behind, AND the school is okay with it...I don't see why he shouldn't visit his family...unless there's a problem at school already.

There are a number of cases in the press right now about this kind of thing - if your child has a sympathetic headteacher and you have exceptional circumstances you need to be honest and ask for the child to have th time off - make a list of the positive things and benefits that will be there for your child - interaction with elders, education about family traditions etc or is it just a jolly???? There are county councils now that fine parents for taking kids out of scool - if all else fails paint some spots on the child and say he has had an unexplained rash or impetigo or something!!

I don't know all the details, like how old the child is, where the family is, how long since he's seen them, why he can't wait until spring break or summer vacation, but I personally would not do it because I think it sends the message that school is not that important. I might change my answer though if I knew more of the details.

I would let my child miss one day of school, anything can happen on a daily basis and some times the only thing that matters are the memmories that families have together. As long as it is not going to cause detramental harm to your childs education, one day of school is not as important as a lifelong memmory with their family.

Normally, there are laws against so many days missed. You don't want to find yourself in jail or allow your child to miss too much school. Check out the rules/laws and just decide what is best.

It depends on how many days he's missing. If it's more than 3 I'm not sure you should go along with it.

why not purchase/download educational material appropriate for his age,and let the family help him work through said material. Then he's not missing out at all,and everyone is happy.(Hopefully)
