As a former member of the Jesuit novitiate, I can tell you directly that, no, the Society of Jesus is not the power behind the Papacy.
Jesuits are still men on the move, ready to change place, occupation, method--whatever will advance our mission in the Church. Jesuits are expected to do anything or go anywhere to teach Jesus Christ and preach his Good News.

LOL! You mean the Society of Jesus? Because there is no Order of the Jesuits. If they were the "power" as you say, then they wouldn't be in so much trouble for misbehaving.

Nope. Jesus is the real power behind the Pope. It was He who entrusted to the first Pope and his successors the keys to the kingdom, the universal symbol of sumpreme authority. One of the many orders which are under the Pope's authority could hardly be the source of his authority.

LOL maybe once upon a time, but not today. The Jesuits are considered the "bad boys" of the Catholic priest (and EW, not for those reasons). Rome isn't fond of them or their liberal theologies.

Nah. The power of the SJ's is way overblown. 50 years ago - I might have said "yes" - but - not any more.
