the best way is to tell him straight up, but if you want to be more subtle then pay attention to him, like take more notice of him compared to everyone else around. hopefully he will then start to take more notice of you.
my advice tho, tell him yourself, dont tell a friend to do it for you and its best in person.

get that person alone with u and ask them if they like u. then u tell them ur feelings u have for them, but if r shy be with alone then it won't be as bad.
