Karro Syrup, red food coloring, and some slices of canned beat that have been blended till smooth in a blender. It can be very messy, and it will stain carpet, but the beat creates that extra chunkiness that can be missing. I recommend at least 8 drops of red food coloring, and if it's too light, add 1 drop of blue.

I heard CSI uses corn syrup mixed with red food coloring, and flavored with mint extract. I guess its supposed to taste good if you need a shot with blood in the mouth. sounds messy to clean up though.

White corn syrup with red food coloring. Add water if it doesn't "flow" properly.
Or, if the movie is black & white, use Hershey's syrup.
