how do i get to know Him?

i feel like i want to know God on a spiritual level but i just can't. any advice?

I speak to God just as I write these words to you now. I have a conversation with Him each day. My prayers are conversations that follow a pattern. I start every prayer with the following: "Most merciful God, not my will, but yours be done." I repeat that phrase often during my prayers. Sometimes I will do so for tens of times just to quiet my mind and make it open to hearing from my Creator.

Between your prayers, study the scriptures, find a good bible commentary, and learn the fundamentals of your beliefs so that you can defend them. The more you learn the more questions you will have. I and others will be around to answer them when you want.

Think about getting to know someone in a relationship. You get to know them over time. The longer you get to know them, the better and closer your relationship is with that person. When starting a relationship, you just talk to the person. Tell them your woes, complaints, joys, thoughts, feelings, etc.

God is similar. He wants us to have a relationship with Him. It's kind of like going in steps. Little by little we make our way through the "purgative stage" until we get into the "joy stage."
It is very normal, through these times, to feel close to God, and then suddenly, not at all. God is continually trying to pull us forward, so sometimes He will step back away from us and lets us take the initiative to move forward. Sometimes, this can feel like abandonment, but it's not.

Just like any relationship, It takes time and is not going to happen overnight.

I know how you feel. you are yearning spiritually, you want your soul to be filled with him. My advice: pray. pray like there's no tomorrow. he is always there with you, always ready to talk, you just have to reach out and make the effort. when i first started building a relationship with God, it felt really wierd to talk out loud to him like that. So i wrote him letters. I used it like a journal, i told him about my day, what i was feeling, my joys, my worries. I confided in him. It helped me so much, i had a much stronger faith in the Lord, and I just got to know him so much better. If you want to get to know the spirit of the Lord, i would suggest the book of John. It's not very long, only 16 chapters. John was the disciple "that Jesus loved" of course, Jesus loved all his disciples, but he had a special relationship with John, he was the one who laid against Jesus at the last supper. John was the disciple who understood Jesus's love better then any of the other disciples. you really get a look at the heart of Jesus in the book of John.

a good idea would be to meditate on a scripture or 2 a day, it doesn't have to be long, just a couple of lines. Focus on them, clear your mind of everything except that scripture. open your spirit to be able to listen to what God's spirit will whisper to you. You can have powerful enlightenments this way. write down what God tells you, they are straight from God's spirit.

I think you have all ready taken the first step (having the desire in your heart) except Jesus as your lord and savior humble yourself be for God talk to him tell him how much you want to know him Read his word .The word says that when we draw close to God he draws close to us find a church where the spirit of God is moving where people are being saved and being healed God loves you my friend he wants the same thing you do (to have a personnel relationship) GO FOR IT

Do you know that the Angels in Heaven rejoice every time someone comes to the Lord!! And we christians are excited that you are desiring a relationship with Him! Since God is your Father in Heaven once you have this wonderful relationship with Him, you may want to start out your Prayers with "Our Father, who art in Heaven" as The Lord taught us how to pray in the Bible. The Lord will change you. He knows your heart and wiil give you peace and knowledge and understanding that without a relationship with Jesus one cannot begin to conceive. Go to the father through his son. Its the very first step. God loves you SOOO much! He wants a relationship with you VERY badly. Repent. ANY sin big or little must be repented of. Well, I have felt that way too. I wondered why everyone around me seemed to be on such a spiritual level, and I wasn't. But then I realized that I was surrounded by zealots, and that they really weren't there anyway. If you want to get closer to God, speak to someone who is in command of leading his flocks. Priests, Rabbi's, or Ministers ( if you are looking into the Christian faith). It doesn't really matter, that last part, because it's all the same God anyway.

Just come to God on His terms. His terms are for you to turn from your sins and get baptized in Jesus name for the payment of your sins, then God will give you the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38. He will lead you in all truth
