Torticollis-There are many different levels, but in its simplest mildest form it just means stiff neck, a muscular condition that goes away with massage heat and perhaps a simple pain killer.

True torticollis is spasm of the sternomastoid muscle in the side of the neck and it often is a short lived condition. Some doctors wrongly use the term for general pain and muscle spasm in the side of the neck.

Torticollis - usually Spasmodic Torticollis. It means twisting of the neck resulting from muscle spasms. Technically, it is not really a diagnosis because it does not explain the CAUSE of the muscle spasms in the neck. A good doctor will work with you to find and fix the cause of your spasmodic torticollis (hint: it is not caused by a deficiency of muscle relaxing drugs!).
