how do you take an alcohol shot?

When you are taking a shot of alcohol....do you swallow? or just let it down.

How exactly does it work?!

You open your mouth wide and tip the shot up and pour it straight down your throat. There is too much liquid in a standard shot for most people to put in their mouths and swallow it at one time. Not to mention lots of straight alcohol is NASTY. You won't taste as much pouring it straight down your throat.
