At the risk of providing wrong information, you need to tell her to speak with her parents if she is comfortable doing so. If she doesn't want to talk to her parents, she should go to the school counselor or a trusted adult. It is not your responsibility to explain this complex topic for her, especially since it's not just about the physical act itself--it's a very emotional and sensitive topic that needs to be discussed with someone who knows how to respond to her distress if she feels confused or anxious about the new information. It's wonderful that she feels she can trust you to go to you for this information, and tell her you will go with her to learn more about it. But if you do not know how to talk about it or do not feel comfortable, you should not be the one to explain it to her on your own. Too much false information is circulated because people try to discuss what they aren't entirely sure about. Plus, if you're uncomfortable about discussing it, maybe you could stand to learn a bit more yourself. Good luck!

Just tell her straight up. And use all the correct terms. Don't baby her or make out that it's embarrassing to talk about - because sex isn't something you should be ashamed of. She is quite young though...I hope she's mature enough to handle the information...

Good Luck.

unless you are this "Friends" parents, you may be getting into something you dont want to. maybe its best you let someone else explain to your friend. and besides, if your friend is having sex at 9 or 10, there is something wrong!
