Well, that depends on how you view God. There are 3 different ways to view this deity. Some people believe that God is all powerful and all knowing and whatever that is done is already known by God. Others believe that God isn't really that powerful and he/she needs someone or a group of people to help. In a different perspective you can also view God as a non-exsistant being. A figment of your imagination.
In this case, we're probably talking about the first one. The theory is that God the all powerful and all knowing doesn't need help, however he tests the followers and non-followers. Whether they do good deeds or bad can only be all seen by this deity. God can do it all by himself, he just doesn't want to. If he wanted to, he could've and would've. This would probably lead to another question... Why doesn't he? wouldn't it be easier? well Christians have the concept of an unchanging God. God doesn't change his idealogies nor his logic, however, it is others that distort it. In the beginning, God wanted this world to last through free will. And in the end, The world will still have free will. If God just changed everyone into christian fundementalist fanatics, where's the free will? Its not there. So therefore, we have the concept of the Unchanging God.

Not comparing myself to God, I ask my own children to help me do lots of things. They don't always do so, and most times they do. There's a reason I ask them- it has nothing to do with whether or not I can do the task myself. More often than not I do so because I want to see if they will obey me or not. It's more of an exercise in character building. God doesn't need our hand or help in doing anything. But considering who the "god" of this world is and what's at stake, God is merely seeing who will and who will not choose to obey Him. This way, when all of man's kingdoms and governments are called to judgement and the books are opened, God will render a fair and just sentence on those who obeyed Him in this life- and those who chose not to. When you get right down to it, God does not put anyone in eternal fire and wrath- they already did that to themselves in this life. To be called of God to perform this or that task in this life is far and away more precious than all the money or mansions or wealth- or anything than a man or woman could ever begin to compare it with. So if God calls upon you to do something for Him (and you will know) count it a gift. By the way, your question is a very good one. Most sensible.

His Son prophesied that the "Good News" would be preached.......
"And this good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come." -Matthew 24:14
As he was a "faithful witness" of his Father, Jesus said that there would be witnesses for him as well............
"YOU will be witnesses of me both in Jerusalem and in all Ju·de′a and Sa·mar′i·a and to the most distant part of the earth."
-Acts 1:8
"and from Jesus Christ, “the Faithful Witness,” “The firstborn from the dead,” and “The Ruler of the kings of the earth.”
-Revelation 1:5
"(Revelation 3:14) “And to the angel of the congregation in La·o·di·ce′a write: These are the things that the Amen says, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation by God,"
And that's all I have to say about that......

He doesn't need our help as you do understand, but He wants our dedicated heart to witness our own lives and the Good News to others. God comissioned christians to tell others about the Saving Grace God has bestowed on us. God tells people thru His Word and the Holy Spirit, but lovingly knows that some people are stubborn, proud, etc and uses the believers as tools to get the message to them. We christians are the body of Christ, with Christ at the Head. It's for our blessing and joy to share His Word with others. The Lord works thru people to further His Plans.

#1 God would be fully justified in leaving us all in our sins.
#2 God doesn't need our help.
#3 God loves and will call His own unto himself.
#4 The Holy Spirit works within us to call those that God has chosen. We don't "help" God, see #2. We participate in His calling, which is an honor, but neither the one witnessing nor the one being witnessed to, gets any glory for another person won over to Christ.
Salvation belongs in its entirety to God Almighty. A little Calvinism for ya...

That's a really good point. I suppose he does not need our help-at all. Sometimes when I am working on something, however, even though I can do it by myself just fine,I still ask for a partner. It gets the job done so much quicker, and easier. Perhaps this is the Christian God's reasoning. Most likely not,but it's a thought.

According to some evangelists, He (or She) needs help because God works through people, rather than through pillars of fire and other dramatic direct intervention.
NOTE: Not all Christain sects are evangelists or 'convert-seekers' (though "evangelism" is associated with more fundamentalist groups today). There are evangelical Protestant groups--Southern Baptists; Mormon's and Jehovah's witness also evangelize. Catholics do too, though to a lesser degree.

God has ordained that the primary way for people to learn of Him is through other believers. He doesn't NEED us to spread His Word, but has chosen us a His primary vehicle. Isn't that a wonderful gift He has given His followers?

God uses people who are led by God to lead other people to him. A short while ago, someone on this site said that if God came down to him physically and he knew that it absolutely was God, then he would believe and obey. Well, where is the love for God in that? Satan by the way also used people who are led by him to lead others to him. That is the eternal conflict that will not end until time as we know it ends which frankly (and selfishly) hope is soon.

God does not need help. Jesus even told his disciple's not to force people to believe
This is what he told them:
And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you.
14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
