Well being from El Paso, Texas; a desert border-city; our water is probably as hard as yours. Having grown accustomed to it after living so long I can give you some hardy advice: lotion. Unfortunately, seeing as your screenname is 'riogrande texas' I am assuming that our situations are similar; there is nothing hardware-wise that can be used to solve this issue.

You see it's because of where we get our water from that it is treated so severely to be cleaned, this is why it's so dry; the water has high percentages of lime, iron, and other things that are irritants to the skin. Though not poisonous, the skin can certainly suffer, and if left untreated can deffinitely lead to infection.

The best idea is to make the greatest use of lotions and sunblock after every shower and everytime you go outside.

Desert life is tough, I know.

Yours,
Mike
