I don't experience any problems other than aesthetics. Has anyone here had the surgery? What was the expense, discomfort and recovery time? Were you pleased with the results?

My underbite was really bad in childhood, and orthodontia helped considerably (and might have helped more if I had done the things consistently as I was told).

But if you are an adult, then I'm pretty sure the surgery is the only option because that's the only way to change the size of the mandible. I'm sure it hurts! After all, when I had an impacted tooth removed, that really hurt, too! But once the recovery is complete, you will probably be glad you did it.

Go for some consultations with surgeons in your area. Ask for references and if there are any patients whom you could discuss the experience with.

I had this done at the age of 17. It is called Maxiofacili surgery. They took my jaw and realigned it so that my teeth met up a little better. It is not perfect but it is MUCH better thatn it used to be. I had to be wired shut for 2 months. That was the hard part. I lost a lot of weeght back then. It was worth it to me but I was a kid living at home.
