I doubt that there are many Atheists who even 'want' to think honestly 'about Christians' ... and unfortunately, I doubt that there are many Christians who want to think honestly about Atheists. I am a Catholic (Christian, although there are Catholics who don't realize you must be a Christian to be a Catholic) and I actually 'like' EVERYONE regardless of their 'religious orientation' ... and I think that is probably the same way most 'atheists' truly think, too ... we're just usually too concerned with 'other things' in our lives to 'consider it.'

It's hard to make a general statement regarding a religious group. As a whole, I think Christians are mostly kind. I, like any other person, get extremely irritated with fanatic Christians. I think Christians are "disillusioned", but that sounds a little harsh. I guess maybe I think Christians are a little too gullible and not skeptical enough. One thing about Christianity that I dislike is that they will readily accept things and care not about seeking further information.
On the whole, Christians are decent people (most of them) so long as they aren't be judgemental of people that aren't Christian.

They tend to be good people that mean well. It is only a minority that actually gives a negative message that reflects on the majority. Sadly, as a consequence of their religious belief, they want others to follow their ideology and use coercive political means to achieve this. This also starts to spill into the scientific arena. If Christians kept to their own and outside of politics and science as it has been and was intended during the foundation of the country, we could all live alongside peacefully.

I'm not atheist but I used to be for some time, and my opinion of Christians hasn't changed.
I believe that they are woefully misguided. I feel deep pity for them, especially those brought up in heavily religious households who never really had the chance to think for themselves. Some of the most extreme ones frighten me a little.

Where I live (Germany), christians are as nice as anyone else. Most of them are not really interested in church affairs and religious life apart from having a church wedding and visiting church at christmas. These people are christians as a concession to tradition, or to older relatives.
Of course there are also "serious" christians. Regarding these people, to be honest, I simply don't understand them. I cannot follow their thoughts. It seems they get rules and leadership from their religion and they seem to enjoy it. Whatever. As long as they are not over-intrusive that's okay with me. And I must say that in Germany we have no real "fundamentalists" as it seems you have in the US. No christian in his or her right mind would doubt evolution here. That's a relief after all the science-bashing you seem to get.

I have a small number of devout friends and I get along well with them (although I never mention I'm an Atheist.) I'm opposed to fanaticism and ignorance but I find only a small number of Christians fall into that category.

I have no problem with Christians or people of any religion. I don't believe they are necessarily mislead or naive for believing what they do ---but I'm agnostic.
I really respect spiritual people who have put a lot of thought into their faith.
I dislike it when people use their faith (or lack thereof) to discriminate against others or condemn others. Or, when they threaten hell upon non-believers of a particular religion.

Alright, I'll give you honest opinion that is not stupid; as for the why, the reasons are all around us:
Lemming-like; easy marks; narrow-minded; closed-minded; fearful ; ignorant; thoughtless; and just plain not very deep thinkers....

My honest answer is I respect Christians and their beliefs.
I can only follow what seems right for me....everybody has to do the same.
I would never try to convince anyone to change what they believe if it works for them.

I don't have a problem with religion, or religious people. It's the zealots of any stripe that scare me.
