You're right, in fact Jesus drank wine, he even mentioned that the pharisees accused him of being a "winebibber." I don't drink alcohol because I don't want to offend my US Christian brothers, but this is a case of tradition trumping reality.

The Bible does not say you can't drink alcohol. It does say not to be drunk. I was raised as a child that drinking alcohol was very wrong but do not believe that to be correct. I don't like the taste of most alcohol beverage, but will not find fault with someone who does take a drink. So no I don't believe it is a taboo for a christian, but don't over do it.

Ephesians 5:18
And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the [Holy] Spirit.
Ephesians 5:17-19 (in Context) Ephesians 5 (Whole Chapter)
This scripture does say to be filled with and stimulated with the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 5:21
Envy, drunkenness, carousing, and the like. I warn you beforehand, just as I did previously, that those who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Galatians 5:20-22 (in Context) Galatians 5 (Whole Chapter)
This scripture clearly states that if you get "drunk" you will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
It does not say however to Not drink, so it is a personal choice to drink or not to drink.
My personal favorite is to be slain and drunk in the Spirit.
BE BLESSED AND REJOICE IN THE LORD!

confident I occassionaly have a pitcher of wine with my dinner..... or perchance a cold beer on a warm day .... The be conscious does no longer let us know to no longer drink it tells us to no longer be a drunkard. Jesus himself became water to wine at a marriage (his first miracle) and countless say it wasnt alcoholic wine.. anybody believing that has never been to a hebrew wedding ceremony as a results of fact they stated it replaced into the suitable wine..... If Jesus have been completely against alcohol why could a loving Father furnish something for his infants that he himself could show against and not partake of himself. in case you prefer to no longer drink an alcoholic beverage dazzling.... thats a private decision some human beings understand their obstacles or what they like or dislike.... many human beings in simple terms dont like the flavor its no longer a "ethical" determination. yet nonetheless a variety of non-public decision. There are people who will condemn one individual for ingesting a pitcher or wine or a lager as a results of fact its alcohol... and that they are "defiling the temple".... yet they try this on the same time as they are status there 50lbs obese and making plans their next quit on the buffet...... None human beings could desire to forged those stones.... we are able to study from his own occasion... make our alternatives consequently .... and in case you have a pitcher of wine or a cold beer .... provide thank you .... provide God honor and thank you for all issues on your existence. Because that is their choice not to drink. I am Lutheran and we do drink, just not in excess. That I think everyone frowns upon. I think it is taboo to overindulge.

alcohol, like any other drug, harms the body (specifically the brain).
your brain is irreplaceable, so why damage it?
