Is that something that you must find out professionally (like by going to vocal training etc.) or are there ways to find it on your own?

To find your range, sing any note that feels comfortable to you, then match it on a piano or keyboard. (Or have someone who knows music do that for you.) Then from there, sing a few notes higher on a syllable such as "ah." I'd recommend singing up about 5 notes then sing them back down to your starting note. Continue in this pattern, going higher each time until you can't comfortably sing anymore. That would be the high end of your range. Then reverse the process - start on that first comfortable note and sing down a few notes and back. Sing a bit lower (down) each time until you can't comfortably sing any lower and that would be the low end of your range.

Songs are written in different keys. So, a song that is too high for you could possibly be transposed to a lower key so it would fit your range. There are some "karaoke" type CD's that you can buy to sing along with that have the same song recorded for you in a "high key," "medium key" and "low key."

Going to a professional vocal coach could help you expand your range by teaching you proper breathing and singing techniques.

Sorry so long and good luck!!

You can definitely find your voice range on your own! For sure! I am a singer in the choir at school. The way to find your range in to grab your nose and hold it together with one hand, and with the other hand put it behind your ear in a cup shape. You then ask someone to play a piano in scale, starting at the low keys up to the higher notes. Sing LA up the scale, then LE, HA, HE, an OH. The reason why you have your hand behind your ear is because in your head, you'll sound like your on a microphone. Good luck! Hope I helped!

No one has a specific key. A key is in the song. Your range you can figure out by sitting in front of a piano and singing notes up and down with the notes on the piano.

Go to a piano, or a school choir teacher, and start at one key, and work your way down/ up, until it strains you too much to hit a note.

Well, I found out I was a soprano when I auditioned for a singing competition from my chorus teacher.

Soprano- high voice (usually a female)

Alto- lower voice (female)

and that's what i remember =P

Well, you can warm up and then test scales. You don't need to pay money as long as you can read music and can warm up correctly.
