Yes because I love wars, death, torture over fictional books such as the Bible or Qur'an.

Religion? If anyone in their right mind thinks religion makes the world worse are insane. Before you blab, read this whole comment. It makes sense. Firstly, religion is based on a thing called morality and ethics. Depending on what we believe is right or wrong, or possibly grey, something proper and deviant, is all written down or idealized through religion. Whether it be christian, muslim, scientologist, Atheism, or Agnosticism (Yes people, Those last two things are also religions. It's a belief based on morality.)
Religion:
1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe.
2. a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects .
3. the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and
practices of religion.
Ask yourselves this. What is a world without morality? Chaos. We can steal, kill, rape, and do whatever we want whenever we want and without reason. But why do people kill in God's name? Even though these religions say "Do not kill" in the commandments? The reason is this. Just like how Communism was distorted and twisted for the control, religion was also used the same way. The religious leaders became tools of politics. People use God as an excuse to kill, not a reason. God doesn't say "Kill him now".
The books say "do not kill" in the qua'ran, bible, scrolls and whatnot. They all say "Do not kill". Religion itself is inanimate and it can't be at fault. What we need to blame is not morality or ethics, because we all have it within ourselves. We need to blame those that have lack of it. And those that have lack of it are the ones that do whatever they want without a real reason. They use God as an excuse. Religion as a moral tool, yes, it makes the world better. However, as a political tool, the effects can be devastating.

I think religion SHOULD make the world a better place, thats kind of its purpose. And I think people intend for it to, with all their mission projects and giving to the poor, but I think they're not looking at the big picture. Relgion has failed to resolve war. In fact, it causes wars. Humans would find someone else to fight over were it not religion, though, so I think overall religion is good for the world.

A belief in God can do. But organized religion...I'm not so sure.
The way I see it is that if people get comfort out of thinking there is a God and it has seen them through many bad times in their life then it's almost irrelivant if He exsists or not because the belief is serving a very real purpose there. But, the problem with most religions is that they all think they're right and the differing view points are probably one of the main causes or war and upheaval in the world. I can't believe that God fearing people can't see the irony in that. But, coming back to my original point, as for the old widow who prays cause she's lonely and gets immense comfort from that - more power to her and her God.

Well considering that religion is man made and not God made well no I do not but the beliefe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior Yes it does make the world a better place.
Man created religion because they needed a scape goat to do things without recompence for it. Hitler killed in the name of religion, in fact most wars are in the name of religion and well the catholic church has been the worst for doing UNGODLY things in the name of religion!

Probably not, and you might label me real religous. Religion made me miserable. But I consider religion as being mans idea of seeking God. I think we need God to rescue us from ourselves. Every once in a while you will see God peak through in peoples actions, whether through the tons of charities all over the world that are religous based, or guys like William Wilberforce or Martin Luther King or Mother Theresa

True religion does, but that which is called "religion" today is not true religion. True religion shows us peace and contentment, and that we are all children of the same Father. False religions bring hatred and contention in the world, and make people believe that they are set apart from others and unable to accept them as brothers and sisters.

It depends, more than one religion makes fights and anger. But in whole religion teaches us to be helpful and that does make the world better.

I guess you just have to look at the middle east,Ireland,Africa and things like the Spanish inquisition, the Romans and many other human atrocities down through history.
All these incredible situations are the result of people disagreeing with the beliefs of others.
