I don't know why he is the 'main man' in other religions, although I'm fairly confident in asserting that he's only the main man in one religion, namely Christianity.
But he was nevertheless a Jew, and even if he were the 'main man' (whatever that means) in other religions, it wouldn't mean that he couldn't have been Jewish. Just because you are the founder or main shaper of a religion, doesn't mean you fit the most accepted definition of a follower of that religion. Was Mohammed a Muslim? Was Moses a Jew? Was Adam a Jew?
BTW, it's polite to spell 'Jew' with a capital j. I may refer to god with a small g, but that's because I don't believe he exists. However, I know that Jews and Muslims and Christians exist (because I've met some), and I see no reason to offend them pointlessly by not spelling their religions without a capital letter; I want them to end up agreeing with me, after all.

Jesus was a Jew. The Jews, children of Israel. are God's people.
Jesus was born of a woman, born under the law. The Jews, then and now, follow the law of Moses and the teaching of the Prophets.
We Christians claim that Jesus is the fulfilment of the law and the prophets. The Jews repudiate that claim. The Apostle Paul says we are wild olives grafted on to the olive tree. I suppose that makes us Christians wanna be Jews
When the Christ. or Messiah returns it will be to Jerusalem, and it will be from Jerusalem that he will reign over the nations.
Early on in Church history it was debated whether or not converts should be circumcised. It was decided that this was not necessary, but converts should abstain from idolatry practises.
Paul says that we should be circumcised in our hearts. Our inheritance is by faith, as true children of Abraham, and not by works and circumcision of the flesh is a symbol of ritual observance.
In a word the Jewishness of Jesus is very important to the purposes of God

The man was a member of a Jewish sect that supported insurrection. The mainstream Judaic priesthood and population saw nothing special in word or deed with yet ANOTHER Messiah. Being there at the time, understanding their own religion and culture, Judaism rejected him. Much later a bunch of people who were not there, living in another time and culture, collected stories from others who also were not there, and started a religion for people who are mostly not all there . So there!

Jesus was born a Jew and his assignment if you will was to try to bring the Jews back to God. They had moved away from God and were doing there own thing. When the Jews caused him to be crucified and refused to believe that he was the Son of God, Jesus told the Deciples to go out into the world and spread the word to the Gentiles. Thats the rest of us. Christians believe that the failure of Jews to believe in Jesus as their Saviour will mean death to them but we are still in hopes that at least some of them will recognize him. Many already have.

Is being Jewish being a member of a religion? I know that the name comes from their the patriarch of their tribe but what has that to do with a religion? Being Jewish they are the people chosen of God to bring the Law and the Savior into the world. I guess under your definition all who believe in the Law are Jews.. I am a gentile that believes in the Law I guess that makes me a proselyte how believes that Jesus is his salvation.... Jim

Well, Jesus CHRIST, definitely didn't worship himself (CHRISTianity). He was a Jew, but after him many people became Christians because of him. Christianity has based itself around Jesus and what he did while when he walked this Earth, and also around his Father, God, and God's word, the Bible.

In acts 2 paul covers the subject very well: 2:15 We [who are] Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
2:16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
2:17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, [is] therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
2:18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
2:19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
2:21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness [come] by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.

If Jesus wasn't a Jew, why didn't he correct the samaritan woman who referred to him as one?
John 4:9 Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

This is according to my general RE course 10 yrs ago:
Jews believe that God will send a saviour to them, but s/he has not yet arrived.
Christians believe that that saviour was Jesus
