I personally would not. I think that a more kid friendly type of SUV would be something like the Chevrolet Trailblazer or if you want something a little sportier the Nissan Murano or the Pontiac Torrent. The FJ cruisers have not received great ratings. If also thinking of a Sedan look at the Nissan Altima, it's been redesigned for 2007 and is an EXCELLENT value for it's base price. I think that the FJ cruiser is something more for the out in the woods kinda car not something practical for running to the grocery store or going across town.

The back seat of a FJ is SOOOO small for an SUV of that size. Before you consider a Toyota read all of this http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Akp9m.18WXAYVsvXAnfMrsgjzKIX?qid=20070301210328AAn8E5d
A much more kid-friendly, and plain better SUV is the GMC Acadia or Saturn Outlook. They are new to GM, and they will be the base of what will replace the TRailblazer. They are also much more refines than anything on the GMT900 platform (I think thats the one with the Trailblazer) It has one of the nicest interiors of a GM to date, but all their new designs are really nice. Read these reviews and look at the pictures, and you will see the Acadia and Outlook are really nice SUVs.

The Outlook and Acadia have lots of space in the second row, and decent space for kids in the third row. The Honda Pilot is also a good alternative to all of those SUV's, but it is very similar to the ACadia and Outlook. A car is a major expensive purchase, and if you get one you dont like you will regret it for years.

I personally advise you to think about the gas prices right now before you choose any vehicle. To me, I do like FJ Crusier just because they're built for off road and quality. I have many friends who drove FJ Crusier and they said they really liked it because it gave them the power to do "crossover" roads~ If you're just gonna drive it in the city, I advise you not to think about it because its kinda waste of gas. And it really depends on what style of car you like, whether you like luxury, sporty, speed. If you're talking about kid friendly, think about lexus rx-300 or 400~

They're over priced. I would put my child in one though.
