When I was a christian, I was taught all about the self-centered goal of making it to heaven and was taught over and over again to judge others (despite the fact that there was massive delusion and denial that I was taught only 'love'). When I finally got rid of all that garbage, I felt better.

Sounds like you weren't in Christianity, because that's not the focus of Christianity. The primary goal of a Christian isn't to make it to heaven, it's to glorify God. The second goal is to preach God's Word so that others might enjoy God as well. That would be love.

Fundamentalist Christians pretty much say that, and don't add much past it, that's why they are called fundamentalists. You're thinking of either A) a cult, or B) a crazy conservative psycho group that sounds like they have very little grasp of what it means to be a Christian.

Hate or disrespect should never be a part of a Christian's life. It is against all that God/Jesus teaches. I'm sorry that you felt the need to leave Christianity. Perhaps someday, you will give us another chance to show you the right way.

Loving people is not a delusion. It MUST be our foremost goal as Christians. Anything else is phony.

Those who say this doesn’t happen either have their eyes and ears closed or haven’t been exposed to this type of church. When we were kids we would sing Jesus loves the little children in Sunday school and not an hour later hear the adults telling their racist jokes. My last visit to such a church, close to 20 years ago, the pastor spent the whole sermon raging against the Catholic Church. And my in-laws are Catholic.

I think once you allow any kind of hate in your heart it becomes easier to hate more and more groups of people.

They say they don’t hate, but if it’s not hate, why all the anger?

For whatever reason Fundamentalism breeds ignorance, intolerance, and hatred. It's a good thing that you got away from the Fundamentalist way of thinking.

I think fundamentalism is a heresy. I went to a fundie church and became miserable. After later joining a church that was biblical and didn't make Christianity into a way to look down on others things really picked up. But struggling with staying away from fundie mentality has vexed Christians for years.

It's not 'fundamentalist' religions; it's anything within the Abrahamic context.

All three Abrahamic faiths--Judaism, Christianity, and Islam--are full of exclusionary attitudes and gratuitous violence. The fundamentalists in all three faiths are simply more focused than the moderates or casual believers.

Yet, if you ask even a casual believer if everyone who doesn't accept his beliefs is going to hell, he'll agree without skipping a heartbeat, as if that's perfectly okay!

Go figure . . . .

You telling lies again?
Aren't you tired?
Which Christian faith will teach you to be self centered and to judge others?
And if religion made you feel so BAD, why are you in a religious chat room?

I left a fundamentalist church for those very reasons. It made no sense then and it makes none still.
