Call me sad, but I like to get all my goods packed up before the cashier asks for change. I can do it at all supermarkets but the aldi - the staff must be on caffeine pills! Plus as they don't have a huge area behind the tills to pack the goods, you hold up the person behind :-(

Has anyone managed to bag up a basketfull of goods before they ask for the cash?

the idea at aldi and lidl is that you take your messages and place them back in the trolley , pay and go to the shelves they have near the checkout area? and bag up there, it is just a german system, also the check out people are on a bonus system, re the more and the faster they can process checkouts, and what i dont like is , you stand in line there, and there is somebody else there, first fumbling their purchases into the bags, than going through all pockets looking for the wallet, and than trying first to pay the bill with the small change, wasting everybody's time .

next time you stand at the checkout, look out for something, the till pc is locked and the cashier puts in a 4 digit code to "open" or "start" the checkout, if they exceed a certain time limit the till locks up again and they have to put in the code again before they can deal with the next customer.

Before they had scanners at our local Aldi, they were very fast, and I couldn't beat them, but now they have scanners, they have slowed down a bit.
Our Aldi has a table for packing things away neatly after taking it from checkout.

Oh my god...it's like the cheaper the supermarket the faster the tills!...WHY?.... I've been in Lidl and had the same problem....oft times its some leery early morning alcoholic in the queue behind me , giving me the evils as I desperately try to pack my most embarrasing purchases, fumbling like I've got 5 thumbs..I hate it!

Well .....
i'm quite good at it, but I like to pack properly and put my bread and eggs on top, so i do manage to pack most of it..before the change comes.

Fantastic question. My husband generally takes over - but only to literally throw the scanned items as fast as he can into the trolley. I'm a nervous wreck and stand well back.

Wouldn't this make a great tv game.

You are suppose to put it back into a trolly and pack it at the long packing table supplied.
