I want my kids included on my tatoo, my one and only idea is a shooting star with a few other stars tagging behind it. Inside the stars will be my kids' names from oldest to youngest and written around the tatoo would be a line from bad company "don't you know that you are a shooting star?" How do I go about designing this ir finding someone to do it for me? Just go into the parlor and give them my idea? Where should I get it? (I plan on it just being in black ink) I've never had a tattoo before and am afraid that if I get it in a skinny spot it'll hurt to bad.

Mom...I love your idea and any GOOD REPUTABLE ARTIST can draw this up with your input and together you will come up with a really bitchin' tattoo. As for pain, I have only had the outsides of my biceps tattooed but the closest thing I can compare it to .....it's like having tiny little sparks falling down on you over and over. They go out as soon as they hit the skin...but there's always more of them falling and hitting.. It doesn't hurt so much as it is annoying. The next day (and for about 4 to 6 days later) its going to feel like a sunburn. The key is to relax, listen to music or talk to a friend to distract you. Use the best artist you can find. go to my 360 page,my secret addiction and click on the dragon tattoo in my blog. My dragon was 12 hours old in that picture...no scabs..no bleeding.

I am doing 8 to 9 hours under the needles this month so I've been doing my research.....here is the best article I could find on pain as charted by body location

I hope this helps

Sketch out your idea and take it in with you, or look for a freelance graphic artist who can create some sketches for you. As far as the tattoo itself, try not to worry about the pain. It's part of the process and if you surrender yourself to it, you can almost enjoy it. Sounds weird, I know, but it works. Ask around and get referrals for a reputable artist in your area and make an appointment. Don't just walk in expecting to get the best person. Also, follow their directions for after care and you'll heal faster and better. Enjoy the process and your beautiful new art! It's addictive.

hi i have two tats one on my shoulder and one on my lower back the one on my shoulder wasnt painful at all it was like having nettle rash, and the bigger one on my lower back it was ok going over my spine but it actually stung a little more when it got round to my slightly fattier bits, so i think it all depends on your pain thresh-hold, and as for the design yes you can take it to a reputable tattooist and they should be able to put together some sketches for you or even put together patterns from their books and give you an idea of what it will look like, im sure it will look great, and you will love it, bc
