First of all, I DO NOT SMOKE( that goodness for that!!!)
The way I see it, all the people I asked why they smoke answers because their friends did it too. In order to stop this, is through education; teach them the consequences of smoking. That way they don't smoke, and the cigarette companies will go out of business. The government once made a law against smoking, but the people went crazy, so they undid that law. In order to make it illegal, we have to abstain any desires about it, and make it illegal through our hearts, not by law.

I don't think you will ever get the entire world to stop smoking, it's highly addictive, that is why I think it will always be around. I am a smoker, have been for 35yrs. I am not happy to say I smoke, I find it very disgusting, bad for my health, costly, yet I still can't seem to break the habit. I have tried and failed several times, never making it more than a couple months. I have tried the new drug Chantix, it definately helped me, and I will try again. My mom was diagnosed with early stage lung cancer, she is in complete denial that cigarettes caused this, she says it could be the weird stuff she and her cousins would pick out in the fields of West Virginia and roll up and smoke. She had chemo/radiation. She was declared a cancer survivor having lasted five years after her diagnosis. You know what, she smoked through the entire treatment, 3packs a day, and she still smokes now. Is it addictive? I think my mom's reaction to the cancer diagnosis is proof of that! If you have an idea of how to quit and not go back, please post it on "yahoo answers". Good luck.

As a healthcare provider I am always trying to get my patients to quit smoking. There is a new medication on the market which I have found very effective in helping my patients to quit. It is called Chantix. It has a website if anyone is interested in finding out more. If your insurance won't cover the cost, it will cost you less than a pack of cigarettes a day to pay for it. It is definately worth a try. I am very pleased with this medication. Even from a personal perspective: my son was able to quit by using it.

No, never smokes a single sigarette in my entire life. It's not always the companies fault, it's the will of the person who is smoking that has a big share in the entire story as well. Lots of them want to quit smoking, but even with all the support they can get, not being convinced themselves to quit completely will never make everybody stop smoking.
They try all sorts of things to convince smokers to quit, but sadly enough, the only thing that really works is make it hurt in their wallet... sell sigarettes for a big amount of money, that's the strongest motivation you often have for people to convince them to stop smoking.

If the goveerment would make them illegal that would help force people to quit....but you know what, the government doesnt want that to happen because they make a ton of money on the taxes...pretty screwed up, huh??!!

You'll get people to stop having sex before you get them to stop smoking. Its never gonna happen.
