The best solution to this problem was one I read in the "Metropolitan Diary" section of the NY Times. Someone was having a loud, irritating conversation on a cell phone on a bus. An elderly woman got up out of her seat and asked the caller "What kind of cell phone is that?" He ignored her at first, but she asked him 2 or 3 times more, each time more loudly. Finally he said with annoyance that it was a such and such (I forget the brand). At that point the woman said loudly, "Well I would never buy that brand because it must be lousy since you have to talk so loudly on it!" Everyone on the bus erupted in laughter and applause. Try it!

Certainly not. I absolutely hate this too. It is one of the rudest things on earth.
There's nothing you can do to get them to quiet down, but you can usually get them to move away by either being louder yourself or acting ill, basically making their rude conversation unpleasant so they'll take their rudeness elsewhere.
If I'm with someone else, that's when I start talking to them loudly and maybe laughing a lot or using an annoying tone or something. If I am alone, that's when I blow my nose or cough a lot. In the bathroom I'll flush and flush again. But act as if you don't even notice the other person, like it's all genuine.
They being rude, if you try to be polite to them, they will only become ruder. They being selfish, if you are innocently making their conversation unpleasant, they'll just move to a more pleasant environment for them.
You can't change bad people but there are ways to keep them out of your space...

If I could "uninvent" cell phones or the A Bomb I'd make cell phones disappear.
If I had a super power it would be the ability to turn cell phones into deadly black mambas in someones hand so it would bite them in the head.
If I could make the entire population of the Earth more curtious about one thing it would be cell phone etiquette.
If I could invent something it would be a portable cell phone jammier and it would disrupt all phones within 100 yards of me.
There's a thing called an "unexpressed thought". Try it. The whole world doesn't need to know everything that pops into your stupid little head the minute you think of it. You really aren't that clever.
Try interacting with the people around you instead of pestering people who roll their eyes everytime your number pops up on caller ID. "What the F does he want NOW!!!???"

It is not just you. I ride the Metro daily and can't stand to listen to other people talking on their phone. Especially at 6:30 in the morning. What is so important that you have to talk then? If it is that important, you need to be at home. Mindless conversations too. Just Irritating. These people were not brought up to respect privacy or others.

I agree with you but this is the new world that we live in. I think it's rude and disrespectful to those nearby who are forced to listen. It's even worse when the person puts their call on speaker so you are subjected to the whole conversation. I can't believe the usage law on planes is going to change. Now, we have to deal with this when we fly...as if flying in cramped conditions wasn't bad enough. So the idiot in front of us who insists on reclining into our laps will now also be chatting with friends. To quote from The Wizard of Oz...Oh what a world!

You are not the only one. I really don't like them going off in a restaurant. It's hard to have a nice, quiet conversation when someone at the next table is yelling because of a bad connection. Sometimes people are rude.
May God Bless you.

i don't have self belief it truly is the cellular telephone use it truly is especially the project. i detect that individuals talk louder on cell phones to living house the more suitable noise of the exterior global, autos, engines, birds, human beings, honking, sirens.. you get the point. I also experience like human beings are typically oblivious to issues occurring round them, like the guy who (even as talking on his telephone) walked in the front of a highway vehicle in Toronto Ontario at the moment. you are able to be a great deal surprised that maximum folk won't be able to do assorted issues straight away. also, if absolutely everyone examining this nonetheless makes use of a hoop tone, please for the love of (insert your Deity the following) please placed your telephone on vibrate. no one needs to hearken to the subject music for jeopardy or regulation and order even as status next to you on the bus.

Many people don't even consider it rude to talk in a loud voice on a cell, bus, store, restaurant, bathroom, etc. It is rude.
Not much you can do about it.
What is really odd, is often the conversations are about nothing. Really nothing: "oh, I'm at the bus stop waiting for my bus, should be here soon, yeah, getting cold, oh well, oh its here, I'll sit down now, there, oh, yada yada yada, I'll call you when I get home . . .. . yada yada yada".
I think maybe they are talking to their cat, dog, mouse!
Hope someone else is paying for those bills!

People that do that want attention. They want people to think that they are important. If I get a phone call on my phone, and I think that the conversation is going to last over 2 minutes, I will tell that person to call me at home, on my home phone.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
We have much in common.
It strikes me that most of these untethered telephone hogs; are disgusting.
It's a new way for the detestable and uncircumspect to further flaunt their base notions, inflicting themselves on fellow human beings who, but for this device, would neatly ignore them.
