First thing is to look at your price range. Best bang for your buck from Smart Parts right now is the Epiphany, the Epiphany is like the Ion, except Smart Parts reworked the whole gun, they gave it a whole new look, and features a new trigger design, new eye system, more durable and better looking body, etc. You can pick one up for $400.
The Ion, still a great gun. You can get the base gun for $200, however upgrades are limitless, I use an Ion now, I have about $600 dollars into the upgrades, Not necessary to be able to play, but depends on how serious the play. With the stock Ion watch what type of paint you use with it, Midnight breaks very easily, your best bet is green box empire, blaze, or any good tournament paint.
The Impulse, an old school look, but very reliable. Low ball breakage, about 15bps, resembles the old shocker.
Smart Parts either way you go is a very good way to go for a tournament level gun.

I've owned my Ion for about a year now and I play every weekend just to give you an idea where I'm coming from.
The Ion is a fast gun to begin with, about 13 bps but with a black heart board I shoot at about 25 and higher...max is 91bps. Couple upgrades that you need to buy will be a cp reg, a qev , and a lighter bolt it helps with speed. With the qev get only the smart parts anything else you'll get a leak. Maintenance wise it's a *****, you pretty much have to tear the gun apart to clean it. For accuracy you are going to need to replace the barrel, a proto or all american freak kit does pretty good.

I do know that you can upgrade your TIPPMANN with a double trigger. And it is probably a lighter gun thus increasing the snap shot capabillity. as for the ION or IMPULSE Ican not testify. I personally play with all trick TIPPMANN equipment. ION's will only shoot well(without breaking parts) on nitro/air so not my ball of wax I like reliable no matter what I feed my gun.

ok, heres the deal. Forget everyones bs. get an ion. plain and simple. get it used at a local place. its is a incredible marker for the price. throw a fast hopper on there too. ( pulse, empire 2, halo B, or a Fasta) but be arare of what you are doing.**** the gun (used) goes for 200 ish. and prolly a $100 hopper, and u NEED TO USE PURE ENERGY. thats around 100-200$. so do not buy an impulse or an ion if you are not ready to spend 400+.
but in all, the ion is the best bang for your buck. enjoy it !

tippmann is about as reliable as you get, most people i know that own either of those guns own an ion, they seem to like it.shoots fast.i own the 98 custom also, i prefer that over any other gun, i go for accuracy over speed, the less shots you take, the more you'll stop b4 you shoot and take aim.

I don't have all the answers.....I have an SP-8 which is a scenario version of the Ion, and I love it...... but if you want reviews and opinions, I'd suggest this site:
www.pbreview.com
Do a search for the Ion and the Impulse.....
There should be a ton of information there....hope it helps!
