In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.
The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.
Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.
Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.
Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

Angels have great power.
(2 Kings 19:35) 35 And it came about on that night that the angel of Jehovah proceeded to go out and strike down a hundred and eighty-five thousand in the camp of the As·syr´i·ans. When people rose up early in the morning, why, there all of them were dead carcasses.
Demons are angels that have turned against God. We don't know if their power has been limited, or not by God. Even so, demons are nothing to fool with.
Here is what to do:
Psalm 50:15) And call me in the day of distress. I shall rescue you, and you will glorify me.”
(Acts 2:21) And everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved.”’
(Romans 10:13) For “everyone who calls on the name of Jehovah will be saved.”
So asking God, by name and you then actually have acces to power greater than the demons. Almighty God, Jehovah is the only one who can help in this type of thing.

demons are very real Jesus even called satan the prince of this world and it is true that the more someone is closer to God the more demons would want to attack that individual he does not need to go against unbelievers there already in his hands. Pray for your friend and help her if you are not a christian maybe this should b a wake up call to you that God and satan are real. it is a very real battle if it were not dont you think that God would make everything in the world great but untill satan is defeated we will continue to see incidents as this and more.

Definitely demonic--but definately not Satan.
The Catholic, from my point-of-view, opens itself up to quite a bit of such activity. I'm just surprised there is not more incidents being brought up.
In answer to your original question, demons can only do what is allowed. Some times we give opportunity by the usage of "entries" such as tarot cards or Ouija boards etc. Other times we become vulnerable if we dabble in the superstitious or try to converse with familiar spirits etc.

Catholicism is not a religion that follows the Bible word for word. God only, knows the spiritual condition of your friend. She needs to know that the Bible is very clear, that her prayers reach God through Jesus, and no one else. Catholics worship idols, this leaves her open to attack; I would urge her to rebuke those doctrines she has been taught, and reach for the only one who can save her- Jesus. Directly.

Demons are real and when invited inside a human they eventually destroy the human. Normally the closer we get to God the more the devil shoots his fiery darts at us trying to get us to go back to our old sinning ways. Stay in the Word of God. Three times Jesus told Satan "It is written." Satan finally fled.

Yes demons are real and so is the devil. They can hurt people and posses them, but they usually come in only when invited. Your friend needs to reevaluate the things in her house. She may not know it, but the bible does state at Exodus 20:4,5 ; Leviticus 26:1; and 1John 5:21 not to have carved images of anything in the heavens, so if she has crosses, images of God, Jesus, or Mary, she needs to get rid of them. They can be calling in these demons.

I'm a heretical agnostic and even I believe in demons & ghosts. I met one named Ogzughimmal in the woods behind the apartment I used to live 2nd year of college. We found his crop circle, stood over it and felt this strange power in the place that made several of the girls with us all freaked out and wanting to run. That night when we slept, he came to three of us, to each in a different form. To me he was a disembodied voice tht offered me power if I only spoke his name, who turned me into a red-skinned, black-nailed demon in my dream as I floated over the cricle. Another friend was visited in his dream by a witch who taught him to fly and strange magics... he went kind of crazy for a few years and ran around those woods making more identical crop circles. My other friend was visited by some form of earth-spirit that was offering enlightenment.
As for ghosts, I've encountered 2 so far, one who threw a glass picture frame across the room and another who led me to its freshly buried grave where my leg was sucked into the earth good 3 feet and grazed the top of the coffin.
Oh they're out there. Usually when I meet them I suddenly snap and start screaming in tongues angrilly at them and they run away.

Yes, Satan is real, and he prowls the earth looking to devour like a lion. Our battle is not against flesh and blood but is spiritual. Satan doesn't want us to be close to God or follow Jesus. He's pure evil.

Sound like a fanatic. If you take to heart everything the sisters tell you in Catholic school your imagination can get the better of you. Probably a dream brought on by garbage from upbringing.
