It all depends on the person, some people's wisdom teeth come in sideways, or don't come out, but cram the other teeth out of position. I just took a mild sedative, and they pulled all four at once. With my son, he had to be put out, and they only removed two, he has to return to have the other two checked. My daughter hasn't had any problem with her wisdom teeth, they came in just fine. So, the IV may be necessary, but it doesn't hurt, it looks much worse than it is, it's just a little nip and then it's in, don't worry yourself sick about, most dentists and oral surgeons are in the know about scared patients. Good luck.

I had mine taken out. I was soooo scared and nervous beforehand, but it ended up not being that bad. The IV is not scary -- it doesn't hurt that badly, and you just fall asleep then wake up kinda groggy and loopy. So, yes, it's necessary -- there's no way you'd want to do this awake! The most unpleasant part for me was getting the stitches taken out a few days later. Other than that, it wasn't nearly as terrible as I'd imagined.

I would go for the IV i know it sounds harsh but i had all four out and it was quite painful on gas so they have me the IV which leads to a horrid hangover for using both! DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND GO STRAIGHT FOR AN IV if you have any doubts cheer up girl it could be worse :)

You want to be put to sleep to do it. You count backwards from
10, you get to about 7, and you're out. Next thing you know, you're
awake and you go home and sleep a few more hours. Eat
pudding, ice cream and soup for 2 days, sleep all you want and
it's over.
If your teeth are all the way in, you may not have to be put to sleep, but it's much easier. If they don't put you to sleep, you
will hear popping noises, etc. and it's gross.

I was put under with sodium pentathol, a single shot in my arm. The teeth were cut out, gums were stitched and I woke up. All went very well.

You only get an IV if they sedate you. I had two out with sedation then two out with gas. If done right, the gas should be sufficient
